Most of the time u get a really big back fire on lpg it's because ur trying to fire a cylinder that is way over charged (rich). this is caused by a missfire then on the next revolution ur trying to fire twice what u normally fire, thats why u r to rich. u then have incomplete combustion and when the inlet valve starts to open on the next cycle the heat and flame caused by the incomplete combustion ignites the incoming vapour charge. so inturn u r igniting all the gas in the plenum and the incoming charge on the one or more cylinders that are causing the problem. thats where the massive backfire comes from.
any tricks of the trade to minimise (or complete piss off) backfiring? obviously going over all wiring, electronics, any chance of interference etc but anything in particular you look out for?
have you guys had any vlts badly backfire on you?
Most of the time any thing up to 16psi a good after market coil, leads and the right plugs and u don't have a problem (most of the time!!). anything over 16 psi u start to see drama's, its a mystical number. two of our cars have no drama's 20 psi and above, one being a single coil ice set up (ice's own coil, leads, cas and ignition booster) and splitfire coil on plug set up rb25/30.
All of the microtech multicoil setups have never had a drama either.
As for vlts backfire on us there have been some mad ones!!! best one's r when people start running like a bomb's gone off.
Normally once a vlt has been converted to gas the standard coil setup shiits itself

mine copped it with the crane CDI so the incomplete burn situation is more logical, i think it comes down to gas control more than anything

yeah exactly, normally with high boost and a big over rev due to no limiter or cas giving up at high revs.
most older cars could be running around with a slight miss under load and u wouldn't really notice it. once u run a car like this on lpg u notice it in a big way

yeh CAS giving up at high revs is my bet as well
im tempted to get an autronic chopper disc to see if i can get around the **** house standard CAS

JPC - AFAIK, they havent tuned any big hp gas cars, they mentioned that they tuned the orange mustang that makes 450kw or wateva but apparently it was tuned by someone else using their dyno? correct me if im wrong
GasResearch ask for Pete - Turbro apparently had a few bad experiences with them and ive also heard a few other bad stories concerning these guys
Addicted ask for Ben - good tuner from my experiences so far
^^^
they can all tune,
none of them can prevent backfires
personal experience pete put good power to the ground on my car
marks car puts good power down, and john who tuned the mustang im told got a hand from jason
APS in Frankstone? There is a thread on the LS1 forums, with a guy and a circuit car, it has a 8 throttle body harrop manifold and he is converting it to liquid injected gas setup. It looked pretty horn, 8 massive injectors and lots of shiny things. Should make 330/340rwkw n/a when done. I know it doesn't help the boosted guys but maybe give them a call and ask what there experience is?

injected is easy **** nearly eliminates backfires 100%
its the future of gas
To give you an idea of how good Ben from Adicted tune is,
At easternats I thrashed the crap out of my car everyday, only maintenance i had to do was empty like 200ml of oil from the catch can on the last day.
Since then my car has been sitting in the shed for over a month without being started once. I asked the old man on sunday to kick it over and it started first click!
In my eyes, this is exactly what an awsome tune is!

Yeh I know that feeling man! my tune was last touched 7 years ago. Was sitting in the garage for over 1 year without being started. got the new auto in and no word of a lie started 1st pop with ease! very hard to find good tunes like that, but are a few LPG tuners out there 1 inparticular with LOT of expeirence and knowledge! wouldnt go to anyone else!
theres only one person who starts sh1t in the gas scene
apart from that its all hugs and kisses in LPG land
Should everyone take a ticket for the GASMAN paul?
