If this happened, photos should be posted. I want to see lots of VLs, all in one place. For me to do that up here, they all have to be ****ty :P I know a guy who spent $15000 just on his v8 calais's panel and paint, but its this really bright/metallic green over astro silver (I think?) and they did oddball stuff like colour matching the wing mirrors with the green.. they don't know what they're doing. He bought it for his son, and then bought it off his son.. (logical). So anyway, he spent $15000 on it, and it hasn't seen the road because the engine is ****. Now his other son has a 2L auto Berlina, LOL.

(I mean, how do you drive it when your CAS packs up? You cant play with the clutch and gears.. oh the memorys lol) The only good thing about the 2L was that it let me get insurance while still getting the essentials (Manual, sedan, rear wheel drive, not a girls car, more than 4 cylinders, not LESS than 2L(ok it might be less than 2L.. but only just)) 2L VL was actually my only option for a first car! I hate driving the 2L now, lol. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I bought mine for two reasons, 1) I was driving a Lada. 2) It is an aussie assembled, Special order car. Which had a Madiera interior (same as my calais) with a mint dash and centre console. So All of the good bits have of course found thier way into my calais and the not so good bits into the 2L. Would like to put my spare 3L engine in it and retain the 2.0 badge just for some traffic light fun, should go alright with the 2L gearing. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Oooo, a Lada :P haha. Yeah I imagine a 3L with the 2L gearing would be quite quick from standstill, once moving the revs would really get to me though. Out of curiousity, what revs does the 2L auto do at 100k, steady speed. Can't remember what it was, but I used to see a car every day with a P/plate, and I 'never' worked out what it meant. P/plates like that really suck.

Its sits on about 2500rpm in top. 3900rpm in Third!

Well.. that sucks, 2L 5 speed sits on 3000rpm.. and it has an extra gear, where's the logic in that?

The auto has very tall gearing compared to the manual. My 3L manual calais sits on 2500rpm in fifth, and thats with 3.45:1 diff.

Hmmm.. my 3L Berlina wagon sits on 2000rpm in 5th.. was told the diff has been changed to a V8 one, don't know how much truth is behind that though, all I know is it has discs so it's better than factory. Would that make mine a 3.11:1 ratio? Pretty sure my Dad's GTS did the same revs as mine though.

VL V8 was 3.08:1, That rpm figure is going off my very bad memory (don't do drugs kids), it could be closer to 2000, who knows, the tachos in those things are far from accurate and its been a long while since ive driven my Calais.

Even less accurate after changing wheels too. My speedo wobbles about 'alot' when i take my foot off the throttle, and then again when I put it on (waves up and down atleast 5km/h each way) I think it might be something to do with my TPS, a sharp difference between on throttle and off throttle.

Mine wobbles too, dash has been in and out so many times ive lost count. A new speedo cable should fix it, but ive never been bothered trying.
