08-11-07, 20:41 GMT+10#42 It has to colour match with the rest of the car, its more a learning experiance than a show car.

08-11-07, 20:47 GMT+10#43 You should do it in 2k
And dont forget you need to clear metallics

08-11-07, 20:49 GMT+10#44 yep! clears can still be applied a few days after the colour is layed down yeah? or should it be done as soon as possible?
noobish questions i know! but yeah there's a first time for everything.

08-11-07, 21:09 GMT+10#46 Pretty much, the paint was originally brought to take out a few dints in the doors and quarter pannels where careless ****tards had just opened there doors on the car.
Ideas spread to the engine bay when i had to drop the engine and gearbox again due to a failed rebuild.
As said above the whole car really is a learning experiance and i hope to be able to transfer the skills i learn here into my next project car.
So for now ill be using the original colour, if i want to respray again then yeah its not hard to rub back a bit of paint here and there lol.
Yes i do have too much time on my hands.

11-11-07, 06:22 GMT+10#49 Thinners thinners thinners! can't stress that enough, had a go at spraying yesterday and although we thought the mixtures were right (sprayed plastics, cardboard seems to be coving alright there simply wasn't enough thinners in the paint and it would spray fine for say 10 sec then the gun would draw paint and yeah crows feet everywhere.
Make sure you get the mixture right (paint should run off a knife almost like water, dont forget to shake shake shake) otherwise you'll spend the next hour giving the bay another rough sand with 1200 lol.
Also pays to push the car into the sun for an hour or so before spraying so the pannels get nice and heated.
Also keep in mind you'll use the same amount of thinners cleaning the gun as you will laying down the paint.
Dont leave paint in the gun for more then 15-20 minutes without use otherwise the gun will clog.
Keep the air compressor regulated to around 30psi depending on your gun
Make sure you use a line filter to remove water and oil from the air line!
Giving it another go today....
Progress so far, about 2 coats worth. Having issues with over spray settling on top, but we'll knock it off with some 1200 lay down a few more coats, clear coat, cut and polish and im hoping it will come up alright. pretty happy with the colour

Whats the difference between the two paints? Probobly still can, although i dont like the idea of spraying 2 pac over fresh arcrylic...
I'm not sure where this car is going lool, painting the hole car was kinda a spontanious decision lol.
Nothing like the free time on your hands when you're unemployed ay?
On the other hand if anyone knows of anyone wanting to take on a first year electrical apprentice send me a PM, have Cert II in electrotechnology! Pref in VIC.

12-11-07, 15:04 GMT+10#52 i cant go into too much detail bout the paints coz i cbf reading up on them again and dont remember it all lol
but 2 pac will last longer be alot shinier and easier to keep shiny, its basicly just a better paint, but its harder to paint

12-11-07, 15:37 GMT+10#53 it is a beter paint but read up on 2pac before u go spraying that **** around outside 1, you will cover everything in overspay and 2, when u mix the clear up when that hardner goes into that clear it can be verry hazdous for your health
the chemical in the harder contains isocyanates witch kill ur red and white blood cells and is known to cause leukemia.
its pritty bad stuff man just leting u know before u go breathing that **** in
a dust mask will not cut it ether it also can be absorbed though ur eyes and skin.

13-11-07, 16:20 GMT+10#58 wasn't there a thread a while back where people claimed that using a 2pac clear over arcrylic would result in the paint flaking off because the arcrylic is a thermo-plastic while the clear is thermo-setting.

13-11-07, 19:53 GMT+10#59 i wouldnt garantee it but it can be done. eventuly it will flake in years to come depending on the condtions.
