Anyone ever gone full lockup in a stocker SL at 100Km/h in peak hour? ANY brake upgrade is better than that. VT twin pistons, slotted discs and rear discs is the way to go. If you're building a race-spec car, you would obviously already know what you're doing, and would hardly be arguing with someone thats suggesting "the bigger, the better". I'm with you, VLHERO. as the guy has stated he doesnt want the car as a race car and yes I have seen guys lock up the skids with normal N/A brakes.... I would hate to see what happens when they have a BIG set of brembo's anchoring the car down. IF you are racing you wont have pissy VT twins. you will have big ass 2-4k conversions that will pull you up on a dime. There comes a point where its over kill for road use mate.

Yeah, thats true as well. Not pointing fingers at anyone, but theres alot to be said for how you drive and brake. Like you said, massive brakes and a crap driver equals no fun for anybody.

I'm with you, VLHERO. 100km/h! Geez mine wouldnt even lock up at 50! Lol. Quote: Originally Posted by 5spdvl Yeah, thats true as well. Thats right, only a poor driver who didnt take time to learn the car would accidently lock up the brakes. A good driver who takes the time to learn the feel of big brakes won't accidently lock up regardless of how big or how effective the brakes are. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I can tell you for a fact in panic situations people hit the brakes hard and then ride it. THATS the reason why ABS was invented. If you give said people some massive big brembo's all it would do is allow them to induce a skid faster. Now we all know that when you induce a skid/slide the car actually loses all braking capacity and becomes basically useless. General driving yer it would probably be alright but thats not what im aiming for, you want your brakes in that one situation where it counts and generally thats in panic. holy sheep nuts 1 question and every one wants to kill each other lol lets start here, im gettin DBA drilled & slotted rotors any way! vt calipers would be easyer & cheaper to fit but was told they are spungy????? i would like 4 spot calipers but works out to be alot of money by the time i buy a set, get them reco, painted & get the brakets to hold them & VT hub addapters. i no the mazda & nissan calipers are about the same but personly id perfer nissan under my rims. whats the braided lines good for? and what pads some i get?

I have VT calipers with 1 inch master and turbo booster and there not spongy at all, the pedal is firm as, they work great for normal every day driving and even if you need to pull up in a hurry.

Anyone who even give the brakes enough thought to upgrade them should have some idea of where they're going to lock up Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Im sure you have some idea because you've done a brake upgrade. So far my information has been spot on. In a panic situation NOT in every day driving people have a PANIC reaction and stab the brakes. Its not because they are bad drivers, its just instinct. Something happens and you react and the first thing that goes through your head BRAKES and because of the urgency you get on them a lot harder than you would normally which generally Ive seen from drivers induces a skid. ABS was invented for this reason, to stop people from "skidding". I dunno maybe im wrong and so is every company that brings out cars with ABS as standard because they like to piss money down the drain for no good reason. I beg to differ on the jumping on the brakes instinct thing. A big roo jumped out in front of me when I was driving home today and yes I did jump on the brakes, but not the point of lockup. In the moment I was actually planning to hit the roo rather than lockup and hit something harder, hence I didnt try to smash the brake pedal through the floor. It all comes down to staying calm when a situation arises and not necessarily an off/on approach to how the brakes are applied. I wonder if Schumacher tries to boot the brake pedal through the floor of his mum's Ford Fiesta when the neighbourhood cat crosses the road in front of him. Or maybe he actually knows what he's doing, stays calm, avoids lockup and stays safe. Nah, surely instinct would make him boot the pedal through the floor. Of course it would, thats everyones reaction isn't it. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Sure, if you talk sh1t then people should set you straight, but I didn't see anything wrong with what VL Hero said here. Especially considering the initial question was regarding some kind of brake transplant. Seemed like harsh and unnecessary criticism. Anyway, whatever..I'm over it Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

wow **** me so many experts on here! Im just wondering how many people have actually run their car around a track at some decent speed for a few laps, im not talking easternats with a few hero passes at the first corner, proper racing against a lap timer? Ive run around Calder park a few times, notorisly hard on brakes with 2 long straights and about 45 seconds from the first to the second, and about 20 seconds back to the first. With the standard brakes totally stock with a top quality race brakes pad, I had the front disks glowing red, still pulled up fairly well. Ive since upgraded to VT fronts blind drilled and slotted rotors, with braided lines and a set of ebc red pads, stops a hell of a lot better than before, and brake pedal is at least as good or better with one inch master! Since put a 5 mm steel bracket to help stop fire wall flex, again pedal improved, so for the wankers who say **** without trying it and having no clue, stop commenting on it! The poor guy asked about a brake upgrade, first of congratulations to him for even considering it, not many people convertin n/a to turbo would even think about it, let alone ask for advice, all he is getting is a pissing contest with the two idiots facing into the wind! A cheap option would be to find a second hand set of turbo rotors and calipers, and a set of rear disks, same on vn and vp if its easier to find. That will make a difference and in my opinion a minimum, If you can afford it though a vt upgrade would abviously benifit your more, but it is nessecary to uprade booster as well. Just remeber, its the weight of the car at speed that you have to stop, so if your non turbo vl is doing 100kph and stops ok, your turbo vl doing 100kph will also stop ok.
