Id quote what b1ancardi said but it was too long. End of the day its all about what you like, how much you want to spend, how much power you want. From what ive seen the RB25 can produce a good amount of power with basic modifications. But hey some people think 200rwkw is babyish especially if your driving out factory with a car that has 180rwkw!

How much are you going to sell the VL for?

I have read alot of owners only push the engines to around abouts of 250rwkw and won't go any further without a full rebuild with a mad bottom end. Unlike an LS1 for around $5000 which can produce 300rwkw upwards and propel the car into the 11 second bracket with stock suspension, a diff and gearbox that can handle the 'thrashing' and most of all an engine with intense bottom end strength. They aren't bad cars, i liked them until the fast and the furious came out, now the tosser image that surrounds the entire scene is enough to put me off owning one. Plus a mint vl calais turbo looks 'classic', R33s and all that just look dated Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Spend a couple of thousand dollars on the GTS25t to achieve enough power for a high 13/ low 14 second pass, but you spend the same ammount of money on the VX-VY SS and it's going to be capable of a low 13/ high 12 second pass. Now, to get the R33 into the 11 second barrier it is going to cost a fortune (as it would to Turbo or Supercharge an LS1 but this is not required to go fast, so alot of people opt to stay N/A). Afterall, the fastest RB25 powered R33 only run's like mid 10's, this is the same as the fastest NA LS1 powered cars. To achieve 11's in an LS1 powered SS/ Clubsport/ Whatever, only requires a VERY basic setup. The main thing is using all the right parts in conjunction with each other. Will cost you around $5000. You will definetely require slicks aswell I should add, otherwise it will just be wheel spinning 3/4 track. The only Skyline I would honestly own would be an R32 GTR. It would have to be extremely tidy but. Jason. Quote: Originally Posted by aquabat You won't get a Skyline to produce anywhere 300rwkw for less than $10,000 RELIABLEY. Jason. An R33 is about 1350-1380 kg and is quoted everywhere as being capable of mid 14's from the factory. How much is a VT-VY? I'd say at least 300kg heavier. Give me 4k to spend on the engine, spend a bit on the rear end and it'll be capable of 11's with slicks. Diff and gearbox? Again, whats wrong with the nissan stuff?? I wouldn't call a stock bottom end 300rwkw LS1 any more reliable than a 250rwkw skyline, a skyline wouldn't need as much due to a hefty weight saving and if the engine does let go, they're cheap to replace. Also, when you factor in the price and quality of the car in the first place, you wouldn't be saving anything with the VT-onwards commodore. I do agree that they (late model LS1 commies) make a good cheap car to make fast, but to ignore that the Nissan has at least as much potential bang/buck ratio is ****ing stupid

i like skylines, i was seriously thinking of going for the r34 gtt. thats the only good looking one imo. can be had for 25K - 30K now. fairly cheap for a good jap sports car, will out run and handle most other cars around. unless you have a love for your vl then go for it. i stayed with the vl:-)

Having owned and been in both car's, seen the reaction from people seeing you driving both cars and the attitude of drivers.. Id rather drive a skyline over a VL any day. As far as skyline drivers are concerned, they are probably the most arrogant up tight drivers I have ever seen on the road, VL drivers tend to be more friendlier. Im not bias, now owning a skyline, and once owning a VL, but the skylines are a much better car than a VL. Thanks

A 300rwkw LS1 powered car will be FAR more reliable than an R33, and far cheaper to do up. If you want aywhere near 300rwkw from your RB25, you are going to have to spend a good $5000 on the bottom end for the strength, because stock, they just don't have it. The potential of this engine is also far less than that of the LS1. Like I previously stated, the fastest RB25 R33's only run into the mid 10's, where as there are LS1's running very low 7's. Obviously the 7 second LS1 engines are not internally standard, but there are many 'bolt on cars' running reliable, consistent 10 second passes with once again, no internal work. Jason.

I bought a VL because I thought the Skylines are becoming more common although I like both. Nice VLs are becoming more rare, because they like Skylines are getting wrapped around poles. Both are driven by wankers which make both sides look bad. I had a skyline the other day pull up beside me in crowded traffic and yelling at me to dose my VL as he was dosing his. OH that was just before he lit up his tyres and the car in front dove out of his way and let the wanker go. Geez I love Brown Stains(Browns Plains for the unlearned interstaters) I MUST ADMIT THE SILVER SKYLINE AT THE START OF THE 2ND FAST AND FURIOUS, FULL BORE ON SURROUND SOUND GIVES ME A SEMI AND R32 GODZILLAS AND R34'S HAVE THE SAME EFFECT . Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Also, when you factor in the price and quality of the car in the first place, you wouldn't be saving anything with the VT-onwards commodore. That is one of the silliest things i've ever heard, 250rwkw is ALOT of power from a 2.5L turbo, and it is going to need to run a fair sized turbo and some fair boost, which comes at the cost of reliability, especially with many rb25dets now nearly 15 years old! 300rwkw from an LS1 is a walk in the park, naturally aspirated, doesn't need to rev, i don't see how you could compare the two for reliability? Also, an LS1 goes for 2-4k (4k being a new motor), aren't alot of RB25dets around the same, if not more expensive than that? (the 2k ones).

i own a vl and yeah i dont really like skyines at all (which is a nice way of saying i hate em all) but really all us vl drivers are varly hiparcritcal cause we do use skyline engines which we like but we hate the car it came from. just seems funny and i still hate skylines mainly cause of fast and the furious. which is another thng that ****s me cause every wanker i especially find at school reakons firstly imports are the bees knees, secondly that drifting is easy as especially in evos (which mind u are four wheel drive and the one in the movie was converted to rear wheel drive so it could drift) but yeah thats my two cents good car that has fallin into a bad crowd lol.
