That's right, because probably 99% of people don't know the true meaning, they just distinguish the meaning by a certain car. I too used see a hot rod as only a pre '50s vehicle. But, there are muscle car hot rods, late model hot rods, vintage hot rods etc, they are hot rods. Just like there are blonde hair people, black hair people, brown hair people, they are all people (only simple comparison i came up with )
Also, it isn't "my real" definition, it is just the definition.

11-06-07, 13:03 GMT+10#43 well 99/100 might know the definition of some ambiguous word in the dictionary but despite what the majority THINKS, the oxford says what it really means... if u get my example

11-06-07, 13:07 GMT+10#45 What their interpretation means doesn't necessarily mean it's correct. As it is, there is a definition, so how can you interprate it any different.
A hot rod is just a general phrase for a modified vehicle, simple.
Again, as ive pointed out a couple of times, Hot Rod magazine features rat rods, muscle cars, late model cars because they are all Hot rods.
How much more simpler do you need it.

11-06-07, 13:18 GMT+10#47 I'm not having a go, trust me.
So do i think the hot rod era is doomed, i don't think so, as long as there are cars worthy enough to be modifed.
And so going back to my first post, as older aussie cars are getting harder to find parts for, it may be easier and cheaper to build a yank tank.

I like to think of early Commodores as early-modern muscle cars.

11-06-07, 16:23 GMT+10#49 Yea i agree, early commodores are probably the last of the aussie "classic" car ie all steel, chrome bumpers etc.
But the problem in Australia though is we don't have the resources to duplicate parts for early holdens/fords/chryslers. The U.S on the other hand has heaps of remanufactured parts, especially for Chevs.
Check this place out in the U.S, caters for Chev parts. That's why personally, it look more promising modfying a chev than trying to find parts for holdens.

11-06-07, 16:49 GMT+10#53 **** yeah it is id imagine it would cost a fortune thats why i dont think the american car scene will not die out completely like ELA-RE mentioned because even with my chev you can get parts soo easy for them where as for hq every is so rare for them if people started reproducing more parts for them the scene will increase

eventualy but with out a doubt the price for it will be through the roof though but i guess who ever starts reproducing it all will reep the profit as im sure there will be a inscrease in the old australian cars being restored once more stuff is reproduced. off the top of my head badges, rust panels and seals for the old holdens are nothing compared to the stuff that are available for chevs

Yeah, Cal Image is importing genuine steel bodys for early camaro's and mustangs. From memory the camaro is a '69. 20g plus the freight. not too bad when you think about it if the cars gonna be your life long keeper.
Hey Brett, guess the battle is lost on the hot rod issue. this being the case Ill try put the calais in the nostalgia drags next year...
