Quote: ozturb6 hey guys, I dont know if you've heard but Sydney Speed Supplies have got a new 355 crank that is an exact copy of a Harrop for only 500 bucks! now I was sceptical about it but thought I should go down and have a look at one and when I saw it next to a Harrop I was pretty shocked so I bought it let me tell ya, with a F288 crane cam it's putting out about 460hp on the dyno! with their vn alloy heads they told me they did their homework on this thing and now I believe them... Quote: ozburb6 I hate to burst your bubble rocket boy, but you're not telling the good people where those crappy eagle and scat cranks are made!!!!!!!!! Forget rocket and cowin and his cronies and the way they are ripping off the public at large, not to mention everyone in the trade and holding the Australian public to ransom and bull****ting to all of you guys about Sydney Speed Supplies cause Im here to tell you that the SSS crank is made in the same factory as scat and eagle and is made of a better grade of steel than the harrop and if you read Street Machine you will find out all about it.The only reason rocket bags them is because they know the new SSS crank will put a big dent in their sales when Street Machine delivers........... Ok Peter (or whichever other SSS employee you are), Whether or not Scat or Eagle cranks are any better than the CRAP you guys sell is beside the point! You took me for a grand back when I didn't have it to spare, and I am only one of many others in my own small community let alone australia wide who have been ripped off by you thieves! You are nice as pie till the transaction is done, then you treat us like something from the horse paddock when something goes wrong... Like you sent the goods to fit a chev instead of Holden 6 (me mate Jonno) and wouldnt take them back, sent a cheap crap procomp gauge instead of the Autometer item paid for (me mate Craig) took it back and never sent the correct gauge, and sent me a non working PC6al multi spark Procomp ignition (only one of my stories... more fool me, I should have learned after the first time...) which you took back for repair and resent a month later without even opening the packaging i sent it in, even claiming to have repaired it while my letter in the box was still there unopened as well!! I opened the ignition module myself and there WASNT A SINGLE CAPACITOR IN THERE! No multi spark, No 400+ volts, just a home soldered cheap crap copy of a holden style electronic dizzy module! Bugger off dipstick and try fool the Hyundai forumers... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mate, the castings may all come out of Asia, but these major brands are machined/finished in the U.S. Same goes for the COME cranks, casting comes from Asia, but all the machining and finishing is done by them. Just look at this thread alone and as you can see, it is the public that agree that SSS cranks are not very well liked. The cranks they have made for holdens were externally balanced and needed a **** load of mallory metal to balance.........yea, great crank. Mate, on ebay these 355 cranks you are raving on about are going for a starting bid of only $150!!! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=120174456594 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120174456594) And what about Procomp.......actually, there's no need, everyone knows. Again, it's the public that want to stay away from these cranks. Just on the internet alone, look at every thread on different forums talking about SSS cranks, it is the public/tradesman saying the won't touch these cranks, not the wholesalers/retailers. All wholesalers/retailers can do is hear what the public have to say about what they like and dislike and try to accomodate to their needs.

You must be on a good retainer, but it's a pity your superiors don't let you in on what really goes on in the trade. I'm an engine builder and I've been in the trade for a LONG time and I got fed up with trying to make a living buying off rocket and then not being able to make any margin on those products, so I tried SSS. Yes, I will agree with you the early 355 cranks had their problems but they were nitrided and I stuck with them and they were the strongest 355 cast steel crank I've ever come across and by playing with it I built some mean mother naturally aspirated engines, but you had to know what you were doing. All this stuff about mallory metal is all crap.It wasn't something for the average backyarder,it was for an ENGINE BUILDER. Now they released a new 355 crank that is INTERNALLY BALANCED. This has made the job of building my customers a potent 355 real easy. I just want the public to know that this is the best 355 cast steel crank in my opinion on the market. It balances up real nice and the torque curve it produces has to be seen to be believed. It IS for the masses and for 500 bucks you won't be disappointed. This place helps me MAKE money and their products are starting to be world class.Their cylinder head range is awesome and there is really good margin on those. They have a huge warehouse in California and as you know all products sold in the US must be SFI approved.Where is rocket's warehouse in America? I like their personallised service and their willingness to help me when I have a problem. So don't speak to me about rocket. As for MSD, what happens when you have a warranty issue? rocket dont want to know you, or the goods disappear for months if you're lucky, I have good results with procomp, and if I have a problem, it's fixed or replaced without a hassle, after all they make it!

You can't fool the public mate. Again, why is this crank you are raving on about only $150 on ebay. Look, just go for a read on different car forums and see what the CONSUMER has to say about Pro Comp and RPM USA. Let's leave it at that.

I got no beef with you pal, if you got burnt or not I don't know and I don't care but I'm makin money off those guys and that's all that I wanted to say,why not give others the chance to benefit and you can stick your dipstick where the sun don't shine Quote: Originally Posted by NOT-30T You can't fool the public mate. I can't fool the public but you are the professor at that.I bet you're paid well to visit a lot of forums, in America you guys are called "Fire starters" and at the end of the day the Aussie public will catch on to what's going down, they're not mugs. Maybe the crank on ebay is the old one....hmmmm There WILL be a lot of happy people who have purchased a decent crank at a good price and you can go light fires somewhere else. so you're willing to put that SSS crank, up against a Crankshaft Rebuilders Auscrank, as 'the best cast 355 crank on the market'? personally, i really dont have any beef with SSS, ive bought some stuff there (nothing major, just a toothed belt drive) and didnt have a problem, seemed like alright blokes, good price, good quality (well not the belt, which he tried to tell me was gates, when my old man is in the belts/hoses business for a living) but i was generally happy with the sale, but the proof of their cranks are just.....there! i mean, they were selling for what was it...1000 bucks, while all the others were around 12-1600 or thereabouts, then all of a sudden these eagle and scat cranks come out, which are outstanding quality i hear, and for 5-600 dollars. so then all of a sudden SSS drop their crank prices to 150 dollars, some with an even $1 starting bid on ebay.....why you ask?.......to cut their losses. the public knew they didnt work well, SSS knew they didnt work well, and no one wanted to buy them. its all there in plain colors. now after they've made these eagle and scat cranks, you can go out tomorrow and buy the best crank of the market (which is an Auscrank imo) for $1600. why are they still $1600? because they are very much worth $1600 and people are still buying them today, over the $500 cranks, because they work farken well. now if the SSS cranks were worth $1000, and worked, they still WOULD be $1000. but they arent, because they arent worth ****, and they dont work well at all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA To post such UTTER CRAP you are most definately NOT an engine builder! So how much torque are your crome dipsticks worth??? Do they balance up real nice too??? Have a nice day Peter from SSS Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i checked out the article, next issue will be the full review. Said it made 460hp or so and huge torque. Fairly convincing so far, to be honest im more interested in them heads and whether they are going to be more affordable than the other alloys on the market

Let's face it, times moves on, the industry moves on, people come and people go, new parts are always being developed for the average streeter. Street Machine don't mess around... I'm getting great results and so are a lot of other people I know. Of course they are more affordable! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

where it says in the ebay ad " buyer is responsible for balancing " how much would that cost. are there any cranks already balanced when you buy them.

The figures don't lie... Check out Street Machine Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Either way, their reputation is tarnished from their first batch of cranks, first impressions last mate and it takes a lot to gain the confidence of the buying public when their track record doesn't speak highly of them. These new cranks could well be the bee's knee's of cranks, but when you have the likes of Eagle and Scat with no publicised failures to speak of for a couple of hundred more, its pretty obvious it is going to take a little bit of convincing to gain the trust and belief of everyone in the market again when it comes to peace of mind. Having said that, it would be interesting to a bench test of all these new cranks popping up to see how they really weigh up. It's all good to say Street Machine have jumped on board with Sydney Speed Supplies, but aren't they giving away an engine to a reader? I highly doubt Street Machine would have anything negative to say about one of their sponsers/advertisers...

Yeah, you're right, it's a real shame cause the average bloke on the street will be able to buy ALL the bits from them to make up that particular motor for about $5000.00...
