Everyones opinion on what sounds good is different. I brought an MP3 headunit off here for $300 with 3 pre-outs. Works a treat. Brought my bro's pioneers 6x9's and 6" for like $150. (Same sort of speakers are being sold on here for less than that.) 1000w Boss amp to power inside speakers. (I know..i know boss is garabe, but extremely loud for the price.) Jaycar amp to power my 15" sealed box Us Audio sub. I've also got a capacitor which i got cheap off a mate and i've done all the sound deading. Would have cost me less than $1200 all up. Now i love music, theres not a day goes by that i don't use my system. This setup is fine for me, very loud and clear. Unless your going for custom setup's or sound comp's spending like $1500 and getting away with a decent system should be easy. Also agreed, jb and stores like that are rip off's. Don't be affraid to bargan and hussle from store to store, make them work for your hard earned cash. Cos at the end of the day that's what your spending your cash, so why shouldn't you get a good deal.

i've never walked into stratties or jb to look at audio gear. however, BEWSH said he got his Pioneer HU from one of those stores half price. ok, it was probably a lower-end deck if it was being sold at half the retail price, but people who know a little bit about car audio gear would be aware that Pioneer is actually right up the top when it comes to value, features and output. If you ever look at a forum and some noob asks "what's a good head unit" all the 'in-the-know' guys with 5,000 posts come along and say "alpine, pioneer, etc etc..." pioneer is always mentioned. their HUs are probably the one decent thing you can get @ those places.. -muff

yeah JB can have some good stuff, stratties not so much. installs i think are the main prolems with these places, and i find that sometimes the people dont really know what they're selling... but thats just my opinion, if your only looking for a basic system, then these places would be ok.

brands like pioneer kenwood sony and the likes have huge mark ups on them and it isnt uncommon to get these brands at almost half price if you know the right people just dont be afraid to ask how much for cash for even the smallest things my cadence RCA's had a rrp of 55 at jb got them for $32 a pair and shop around because every one sells pioneer is a more competative market the pioneer HU's are exactly the same at Specialty audio stores as the ones at sold at stratties its the install and the knowledge that changes not the quality of the products
