sorry.. bad metaphor... a 20 year old pc with a new chip.. same operating system.. like i said i don't doubt it would work, and i think it's a great idea for those on a budget running near standard setups who would otherwise just be using the stock ECU. i'm just saying i wouldn't trust it to run a bigger, more expensive combo such as yours. and no way would i remove my autronic for a remapped stock ecu, no matter what the results.

yeah each to there own i suppose, and u would need results to before any more talking about it i suppose! but do u self a favour and check out the site, u would be suprise how much tune abilty it has, and regarding the os it's acutally no where near the same, it's update as well! i'm guessing not to many people have done this that's the main reason why i put it up! was hoping someone may have done this! petros, read up before commenting i want a street able usable car, wind the boost down run the car, it doens't need a re tune, wind the boost up run a 10 happy thoughts, its just something i have been looking into! and found it most interesting! Quote: Originally Posted by PISTVL so what ur saying is the std remapped computer will adjust fuel and ignition etc as u up the boost so u could up the boost with a tpiece or electronic boost controller and mixtyures will change?? i thought it was a set map ie if u plan on runing 15psi then thats how the map will remain and is only tunned for that psi ?? no not at all, that's what i have been lead to believe before! they tune the car for the setup, and then u wind the boost up to a safe level before pining detentiaion happens and guessing thats the limit it isn't stuck to a boost level, say tuned for 10 psi u have to leave it on there same as my wolf, they tune it, and u just put more boost in, i believe with the injector i have i would have no issue running 25psi, (maybe fuel pumps might complain but anyways, so really when it's tuning find out where it starts to lean out, and then that's the limit of boost!

i am being very serious, not being a smart arse, i didn't realise all the above, so it's something i will want to know even about my ecu the wolf, and it's something i would be asking sam or anyone should if they are looking at ecu remapping or any aftermarket install

Petros not having a go at you mate but those specs for a motec are actually overkill for most engines, i agree they are fantastic for tuneability and adjustability but in the hands of a bad tuner - it is still the pin for a hand grenade! I think you will find data logging, boost cut and the sensor measuring is the only things that are of major difference and advantage with a high priced ecu! All this crap like upping the boost is rediculous. Even if your motec is mapped to a certain point and you want to up the boost changes to management have to be made. Whether it be an alterred map already loaded,or another tune by a tuner costs are still involved.

which it comes back to i suppose, ecu is only as good as the tuner u have and we don't have to many tuners up here don't want to start an arguement, u can't go past the to ecu's u have mentioned petros they are the best, and if u have the best first up like u said u never have to worry in the future, i will though be asking the above question to sam to see! Mate i understand your point 100%. If I had invested big dollars in my driveline and was getting to the pointy end of mid to high 9's then it'd be a motec all the way but what i think poohkies and myself are getting at is that the std ecu is tunable with an eprom burner. As you make changes you can get it retuned time and time again, all they do is burn a new chip. Yes you will probably max out the ecu's capability at some point and god knows what that point is?

my mate has had his m3 running on a chip for more than 4 years he still hasnt had a problem hes gained better fuel economy and gained 15 kw at the wheels ! cant be that unsafe etc running on a high comp m3 motor now can it ? i do understand where ur coming from petros ! POOHKIES i think he is right though ! u built a weapon u may as well go the aftermarket computer ! on the other hand if u were only chasing like 12-13's and was a pure street car then i think this chip would be great ! i'm just looking at the cost etc, and if it's able to work just as well as a aftermarket one then why not do it after the car is all running and same ccomes up here again i might give it ago, and see how good it is, how many more fast vl's would there be if all u had to do was buy the turbo and the injectors and an airflow metre and a chip just knocked 2-5 k of the price of your build!

For someone like me who'd be happy with 220rwkw I think it will be viable option. Go back to the old school days of vl's and the guys back then had no aftermarket computer options were down well in to the mid 11's on std ecu's with generally 2 extra injectors plumbed in!

if ur able to have variable boost settings and the computer will adjust mixtures etc i would be very interested in this chip !

I know sam personally as well as a lot of other people that I know and I have never heard a bad word against him. I don't care who really says this that about one shop or the other as I have heard bad stories about every major VL based shop in the state. Was it to do with his ecu tune?

^^^^^ it was when he was working for nick, sam was running the show and lets just say i was'nt happy about the whole thing, the car stayed there for 8 months to do a custom plenum and cooler, the car came back with scratchs dints and bassiaclly ****t the blame game was just thrown around between them, there was alot of thing's that i was very unhappy about. if you eva went to nicks when sam was there you would of definetly seen my car there it was its home for a long long time.. and yeh he tuned it once and i came back with in 16hrs, to be re tuned, i dont want to bag him out cause as a person he seems like a good bloke but buisness is buisness, simple as that. there was a few thing that i was'nt happy about but like i seid im not gonna wright it on here..

Fair enough man. I can understand that. I will say this though that I know enough about what was going on in and out of that shop at that time and no I am not a workshop groupie . As for his ecu tuning it would not turn me off him at all! He is very good at what he does! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I think its a great idea, that software looks better than my wolf, 3d mapping, data logging! I would almost change back to the stock ecu.

its not a bad idea if you dont have the big bucks for a pro unit. Nissan would have spent millions and many many hours configuring the factory ecu to be as driveable as it was. Can this remapped stock chip be programed for sequential injection though? And what happens if you pump in higher octance fuel for a race and want a little more boost and a little more timing? Its a great idea and i hope it works as well as you've been led to believe because im sure it would be a great alternative for those on tight budgets Having said that though im all for fully programable aftermarket units

meh... dno where this remapping stuff came about with "drift teams" in Aust and other ppl in japan doing it.... all i know is a fkload of ppl use POWER FC's in their imports........ go open a magazine of HPI chances r the GTR in there making 600-800rwhp is using a powerfc :P i havent seen any remapped ECU cars in any of these mags, must mean something.... ediit yeah, altho i have seen articles where that dr drift or watever guy was mentioned, either way i'd rather a aftermarket ecu.
