put it all back together and it still made mad noise so i put another set of lifters in out of another motor, was fine for about 10km then it started again so i think its not getting enough oil up the top so im thinking i need a new oil pump or i have a blocked oil gallery

just curious, would this work also? buy cheap cheap oil, dump the old oil and bin it, put the cheap cheap oil in and run the car for a few mins to get the oil everywhere, then dump the cheap cheap oil and replace with your proper oil? i thought this might work as the engine now has clean oil all round? and not the old dirty oil that stays in the crevices when u only dump old oil and put ur good stuff in. if this doesnt work after one flush, buy the cheapest oil u can get, i found some 13 doller oil, and flushed with that, you could buy 2 bottles, and flush the car twice, maybe run it a bit longer between changes, maybe for 10 mins giveing the car a squirt so u know its clean the whole engine, then dump it. the only reason i can see this not working is if the dirt in the lifters doesnt come out? or its blocked in them somehow? what you guys think? if this works, this would be easier than cleaning the lifters, but yea like i said, not sure this would work as good as cleaning the lifters themselves! Ta Imo that wouldn't work man, you'd be surprized at how much build up of **** is in them that wont flush out with just oil. besides the're not that hard to pull apart and clean just follow the steps in this thread Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Your oil idea wouldnt work as when you pull the lifters apart there is heaps of crap inside them also. Flushing with oil also wont fix any chipped lifters. Do it properly and it will give you lots of quiet motoring Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They'll get damaged eventually unless they are already chipped. Plus its slightly embarrassing at the lights when your poor VL is ticking away madly at idle!

When I remved the clips I got a small plastic bag like you put fruit and veg in and put the lifter inside while I removed the clip, it then just hits the plastic bag when you pop it out and you dont lose them With the bolts just make sure you only hand tighten then once they are all done to hand tightness use the torque wrench. to revive this old thread again. i had the noisy lifters constantly like other people said they had. i cbf changing them and got told it was too difficult to clean them before i knew much about them... i tried some lifter cleaner/quietening stuff from bersons... didnt do crap, so i got recommended this oil additive called pro-ma mbl8. i followed the instructions and have never heard my lifters again.. makes my injectors sound loud now by comparison. i seriously couldn't believe it.. has to be bought on the interwebs cost me $32 delivered and is enough for two oil changes. the best cheap thing i have bought for my car yet!

Good article this one! I just pulled apart one of my lifters off the spare head that i have that will be recoed and theyre not so dirty, but may aswell pull them all apart now dunno why so many people loose the clips, use a right angled pick next time with your thumb over the clip lol
