16-08-06, 17:58 GMT+10#43 lol @ the dilema... they might know turbos but dont know V8s
mate the job is enormous... triple what u think it will cost at least, and quadruple the work u think is involved.. so many things u dont think so take time and cost money, cutting into the guards to fit the turbos, relocating the alternator,ps,air con e.t.c...

16-08-06, 19:05 GMT+10#44 Cant be much different than doing a NA turbo conversion on a 3L Nissan motor though... few things on the V8s are in different places but the concept is the same. My battery is already in the boot, my AC has already been ditched, already one hole cut under the CAI... cant be that hard can it

oh but the nissan motor also came factory fitted with turbo systems, plus its a nice straight 6... hence they're so popular its just a bolt on job which most ppl can do... turbo holden v8s were never meant to be!

so so different. less room. you can fit the turbo between the strut tower and engine on a straight 6. you have to squash it in the corner on a v8 all the turbo injected 5 litres i have seen have been a stupidly tight fit. a turbo takes up so much room becuase of extra piping than a supercharger. think that your turbo has two housings then a dump pipe off the back plus two exhaust manifolds to feed it plus the air intake for the turbo and the charge air piping

17-08-06, 22:21 GMT+10#49 If they can fit twins on a VT onwards you could fit them on anything, no cutting no modifiying they fit down low very low almost in the trans tunnel

18-08-06, 00:23 GMT+10#50 setup i just finished doing on a vz ss ute, single 76mm mr turbo billet roller, tail 44 gate, its not that hard to do i did it all in bout 6 days extractors, cooler piping, exhaust, etc, etc, its getting dynoed in few days, price youd be looking at round 10,000+ fitted tuned

Do you think single is the way to go then? Dont know if any of you guy have seen Steve Santo's "HSVSS" black Walkinshaw... but he has twin turbos mounted up the front where you would normally have the battery and air intake. I will try find the magazine at home and scan in for you guys

18-08-06, 12:37 GMT+10#52 hes also missing 80% of his guards, that car would never pass road worthy... underneath is prob a better place to put the twins, nice and stealthy and wont leave the bay cluttered, still a big job tho... imo everyone with a V motor contemplating this should always go twin and not single... keep it symmetric!

there is a yellow vr/vs ute a paramount performance in town here at the moment making just on 500hp at the wheels. super charged with a standard manifold. i don't know what is done internally though.
^^^ much better option

It can be done cheaper, just use factory cast exhaust manifolds.
Sure, a custom manifold will yield overall greater power, but for around an extra 50 or so hp at the wheels, is the extra $2-3K on manifolds worth it, i dont think so.
Unless you are building an all out drag machine, where every hp counts, then custom manifolds are fine, but for a streetcar, the cast manifolds are fine. There was a write up in Zoom saying the same thing and on turbo mustangs forum, apart from the 1000hp+ monsters, the "normal streetcars" use cast or log manifolds as well.
And i believe Jake Edwards uses factory holden manifolds on the cars he has built, and didnt he run 8s in his torana as well?

10-09-06, 20:50 GMT+10#57 our progress so far for my twin turbo setup on my vn ss. so far its cost us $78 dollars in bends. alternator and powersteer pump will be moved low mount. undecided about the turbos. prob use rb25-30

10-09-06, 21:46 GMT+10#59 balanced bottom end, mid range pistons nothing too fancy. aiming for about 350hp at the treads for the moment till i can afford to build a bulletproof bottom end.
