why would u mount electic guage on the bonnet.. i always thought the whole point of bonnet guages was cause they were all mechanical... ? ie oil pressure, water temp, fuel pressure, boost. they do look pretty sik on the bonnet on the right cars.. but at least if they're mechanical they're meant to be there. and not just wank.

Quote: B.be prepared for the day when someone steals them bahahahah, lol do people actualy steal them, what sad cases, but i am guessing it wouldn't be that easy considering uve bolted or screwed them into some sort of alloy or metal plate under the vent? can u do it urself or do u need someone professional to do them.. cause u guys are talking about this engineering certificate, whats that mean?

When some gauges are worth 200+ bucks and cups are 80ish each, When you have 3 of them out side your car in public im 100% sure people would take them! People break windows for less... I have a solo boost gauage out there, It works, light works. Its so easy to keep an eye on out there when your just driving, Look slightly out of the main driving view and have clear sight of the gauge.

Boost, oil pressure, fuel pressure and anything else that can change in the blink of an eye. Thing like trans temp that changes at a slower rate and only needs to be observed quickly once in a while can be mounted down low under the heater controls. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for gauges to be outside of the car. They all can be mounted in a way to be seen easily in the car. All of mine are inside and my tacho is right in the middle on the steering column.

It is illegal to mount mechanical gauges inside the car. 1 good point. It is very easy to keep your eye on the road and on the vital stats of your motor. 2ed point Some people think it looks really good and use it as a fashion accessory. 3rd good point. Breaks put the outer shape of the VL to give it a different look from all the other VLs. 4th no so good point but its a point! thank you and good bye. Matt.

Ummm, it isnt on my steering and it is in front of the factory tacho which is of no use to me as my engine revs higher than what the stock one reads. Anyway, if your engine does not rev higher than what the factory tacho shows, there is no point buying an aftermarket tacho. To play it safe, buy warning lights for the gauges (as i will be doing as well), so the only time you should even look at the gauge is if the light turns on. They are the reasons why probably 90% of people put gauges outside of cars, not just VLs and it is a stupid, wank factor reason. Quote: Originally Posted by [T]Matty thank you and good bye. No, when looking at a gauge you have 0% attention on the road, but it takes 1 second for your eyes to focus on the guage, read it and focus on the road again. unlike if it was in the Calais sunglass holder, have to take your focus off the road, then turn your head down, look at your gauges, read them, turn your head again and look back onto the road, then work out what happened for the 10 seconds you were off the road and see if the tree you hit did much damage.

And we wonder why so many teenagers and P platers get killed on the road, alot can happen in that 1 second. Only time i look at my gauges is when i've stopped, i never look at them while i drive. When i'll be racing the car i'll be putting warning lights. As i said, they can all be mounted inside the car for you to see clearly and won't affect driving. But, the main reason why people put them on the bonnet is to be "fully hektik bro" (well not everyone, but it is to be "cool") To each there own i suppose. **** i sound like an old **** Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I agree with you there but the paralax error would be horrendos when looking down to check a gauge. If a warning light comes on then you look down at your gauge its true reading will be somewhat different to what you perceive the reading to be unless you can remember precisely what you have set your warning lights to.

i have mine held on by zip ties, works a treat, but i also have a loom for the gauges with a plug so when i park i pop the grill out along with my gauges and put them under my seat, out of sight, out of mind. pics when i get home..

The pressure senders for warning lights are 18psi, 30psi and 50psi. Warning lights come in different colours. When you have a light and a sender for a certain fluid eg. oil has 18psi sender and blue light, there is no need to check the gauge because the light turning on is your indicator that something is wrong.

the thing that also happens when they are on the dash, 2 cm under where u are usually looking, is preferial vision, you can as u concentrate on the road, see where 3 bright orange needles are pointing, you get to konw where they are, hwen one moves from where it shouold be you will glance down, while still concentrating on the road, to see where its moved to.

i can see what my gauges are doing without taking my eyes off the road, being on the bonnet right infront of me, i can tell if somthing is wrong because of the orange needles in my preferial vision. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
