Well I think that all the VL owners on the site can't be anything but paranoid. If you think about it, VL's are one of the most modifed cars in australia, and thats why thieves target them.

at the end of the day u have to make it hard for a crim to break into ur car, if u do that then the chances of u bustining them will be high. crims want to break into cars quick, they dont wanna waste there time or spend alot of time breaking into a car

There are probably 5 major car alarms on the market and many ( if not all) have easy ways to get around or over-ride them. you'd be horrified if you knew how easy it was Modified cars have so many parts easy to 'move' on them so are easy pickings for thieves Remember there are joyriders who just want to use your car for transport and thieves who want to steal your car for parts or rebirth them. And sorry but some of you have stickers on your cars advertising stereo companies etc that just draw thieves to your cars. and others leave CDs, wallets, mobile phones etc in their cars despite warnings about not doing this even tracking systems won't stop your car from being stolen: they MAY help you to get it back but it'll still be damaged the VLT Calais I sold Erin had quite a good anti theft system on it: custom designed, not impossible for a thief to get around but not your everyday system that they are familiar with. I have an anti theft idea related to your cars computer that I believe would help reduce risk: build a custom computer connection specific to your car. only your cars computer would plug into it. remove your computer each time and they can only tow or push your car. bringing another VLT computer won't help them

thats true aus880, but the purpose of an alarm is mostly to advise the owner when your alarm is going off, i am sure that your neighbours or other people of the community wont care if ur alarm goes off, but if u hear it then u will be out that door or wherever u are to go check up on it. now u maybe thinking what about if u cant hear the alarm, well if u cant hear it then u need to look into other security systems that will warn u. aka 2 way alarms. once the alarm goes off it will notify you that it is going off before the criminal can disable it

why don't people with worked vlt's just unplug their aftermarket ecu's at night? I mean the theif is going to need to know what ecu you have, and have a spare one with a base tune lying around to use. And on top of that, i you leave the stock ecu in position, it makes it even harder for them to work out what's going on, unless they already know you run aftermarket managment. Then they gotta find wherever you'v got your loom hidden

hahaha "real pro's" some of you guys have been watching gone in 60 seconds too much. Most car theives are scum, lowlife junkys who'll take what ever they can get. Im sure stealing/selling parts/rebirthing a VL is alot easier than some BMW or Merc.

When i had my old VL was very careful where i parked it! No matter what Alarm you have in your VL there will always be ways to Steal them it won't end with the Theifs stealing these cars, unless you only drive yours on the weekend.

If someone wants to nick your car bad enough and are good at it, they will, not much you can do apart from an alarm , imobiliser, club lock, tracking. Just be careful where you park it.. even if its just for 10 mins, cause how long does it take to knock a vl off?? A friend of mines black vlt calais was parked in his front yard behind a garden bed parked in by his mum, they broke the clublock and pushed it through the garden and it was never seen again.. (he turned the alarm off cause it kept going off- prob the thief- so he would turn it off..) I dont have a calais but still am a bit careful.. i never leave my turbo dato anywhere random, unattended or out of view. you have to be care thief paranoid if you have a vl calais... its just a fact.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
