what are you guys thoughts on cutting slice in exhaust and bending then welding together to make bends the horie way?

Um...you said it...horie! There's a reason exhausts have nice smooth bends in them... I'm sure if you took your pipe into a workshop with a bender they would bend it to suit for cheap. Do it once, do it right!

too late i have already started on the horie job, im thinking that the welds wont restrict the flow too much as its 3" pipe. just that its hard to get the bends right first time and i might take my pipe in and get the guys to make a professional one. problem is that i cant take car the the shop so i have to tack it up at home first.

Wasn't so much the welds I was thinking of, more the sharp angled bends that might disrupt the flow. By all means, mock one up using your cut and shut method and use it as a template to get one bent. Speaking of hori jobs - I don't have a welder and can't weld but needed to make brackets to mount my Recaros to the VL seat rails. I mocked them up out of wood first! It worked, and I've now made them out of steel. Not an easy job though, lots and lots of trial and error, but I'm stoked with the job I've done.

Make sure you do it right... it's pretty serious if your seats aren't mounted properly and you have a crash Quote: Originally Posted by NZ VL com what are you guys thoughts on cutting slice in exhaust and bending then welding together to make bends the horie way? [QUOTE=NZ EVLHSV]Make sure you do it right... it's pretty serious if your seats aren't mounted properly and you have a crash QUOTE] Yeah, I've done it pretty heavy duty - seats are more likely to rip out of floor than off of my brackets! I've used 10mm flat steel, which is bolted to the OE rails using the hardest 8mm(wide) bolts I could buy. Seats are in turn bolted to the flat steel, again using the hardest bolts available. Everything is thicker and stronger than factory, and my car will be certed when finished so i'm hoping it's all good.

with the new exhaust laws, i have been thinking about the type/shape of the rear muffler. have extractors,3"resonator up front 3" resonator middle. thats as far as i have got. to do.. 3"-2.5" reducer then up over diff in 2.5" muffler of sorts, not keen on anything fancy just want simple subtle look. Any ideas will be awsome thanks....And how can i be sure it will pass wof/police inspection?

Only way to be sure is get it tested and if it passes they put a heat proof sticker with all the info on your exhaust

I know extractors with a resonator up front into the factory center muffler and then just pipe up and over the diff and straight out the back sounds really good, but seeing as your's is supercharged and you'll have bigger pipes then yours sounds perfect, keep that muffler at the rear as hidden as possible so you just see a nice clean pipe!

my exhaust had a 18inch coby were the cat was and a cannon but the tip on the canon was only 3 inch the whole exhaust was 2.5inch and at red line it was only 76 decibels. i dont no what is classed as legal now though but it sounded real nice and was surprisingly quiet ive got a set of extractors here if anyone wants them got a new gasket with them to somewere. make me an offer
