23-09-07, 22:07 GMT+10#41 diggin up old threads russ! :P
got my 1st VL at 16 to fix up as i was in love with 8's and came across a nice carby 8, 286 cam, head work, extractors, exhaust, shift kit, stally, lsd etc for a decent price, managed to kill the motor after a few weekends of the parents going away! they couldnt understand how i killed a car i only drove with them in it *shrugs* :P
upgraded to a VN calais 5.0 before i got my p's, after a few months got sick of being flogged by ricers, vlt's and even v6's lol so i bought my first VLT [SLY.747] im now on the 9th between me and my misses, going from carby 308, 333 stroker, n/a manual and auto, injected 5.0, turbo manual and auto's!
back on turbo manual now cant beat it
also had various other cars including a nice lil rotary! that was about as close to a VLT as any of them got - 79 323 coupe

23-09-07, 22:42 GMT+10#43 When i was around 15, my friends older brother had a mint morning blue over silver calais turbo.
He use to take us for drives sometimes, and that involved skating across multiple lanes and getting thrown back in the seat.
Absolutly loved it.

24-09-07, 01:05 GMT+10#50 My dad bought the VL Exec I now own from a friend of his in around 1998which was a company lease car before we owned it.
So I'm now the second owner, with books, and company lease records etc..
It's always nice to know where the car was before.
So I learnt to drive on the VL amongs other cars like an XC 5.8l Ute, and the VL just stuck with me through my P's, now off them, and haven't look around for another car since..

24-09-07, 06:30 GMT+10#52 Back in '96 a mate bought a 5 speed SL, lowered it and fitted a full exhaust, it was a great car, he gave it heaps ocassionally and it handled it fine. The way it drove and the look is what got me, I like the shape, and the stance on some lowered suspension. I'm now on my 3rd VL, first was an auto exec, only did the exhaust on it, was a trusty car for 6 years. Second was a 5 speed exec, had a cam and chip (apparently), I was also told it had a (legit) high flow cat, nothing flows better than a gutted one, replaced that. Now I have a 5L Calais I'm slowly doing up, doesn't need a great deal of work but I'm not diving into it, take the time and make sure it's done right. Will I get another? Possibly, think I'll make the next one a turbo, haven't had one of those yet.

24-09-07, 09:34 GMT+10#56 my mate had saved up for years to buy a HSV VL Walky, he had one lined up, didnt even have his L's!
deal fell through cus of the seller, and he decided to get a S2 Calais turbo manual, factory manual.
before he bought the calais he said to me 'u should get one'.. i was in love with et turbos lol and once i saw a fullboost movie or all the dosing crap that was it! i had to get one.. but not having the money for turbo, i at least tried for a calais.
a nice champagne vl calais n/a came up, i offered him a deal and for 2500 with more than 10 months rego i was driving home my 6th car lol
my parents almost shanked me but they enjoyed it.
6 months or so down the track and i was buying a vlt motor from a member on the forums. along with an exhaust from another member, a hybrid intercooler kit and some other stuff.
i had my first dose a few weeks later... u dont understand that feeling....
to have a goal set out, plan it and accomplish it, is a sick feeling.. although the residents of brighton must of hated it lol i was dosing laps 24/7 hahah

24-09-07, 09:46 GMT+10#57 When i was a lot younger say 8 or 9, i used to live on jacksons road in noble park north. I remember this Canary Yellow BT1 running round on cepters and it was always flying up and down jacksons road.
This copper had been trying catch him and he asked me if i had seen this car driving round and im like nah, he tells me they have been trying to catch him for ages but hes too quick.
Ever since then i wanted a Yellow BT1, even tho at the time i had no idea what the car was cuz i was a ford man. But i converted!

24-09-07, 09:49 GMT+10#58 I had a 202 HJ Panelvan, extractors, exhaust, sounded nice which i still have, and was getting a bit over it, too slow, no power steering and just very big so i was looking for another car. Started looking around for a Torana but couldnt find any which were in good condition for a reasonable price. I then started to look around for a commodore.
I was originally after a VH but couldn't find any so i decided to look around for a VL. Came across one in the trading post, the guy said it was in good condition so i went for the 1 and a bit hour drive in the fuel guzzling panelvan to have a look at it. The paint was in crap condition, interior had ciggie burns all through it and dog hair hair everywhere. The boot didnt have a lock on it and the bonnet wouldn't open. Took it for a test drive, it sounded ok cause it had extractors but then realised as i was driving that the wheel wasnt straight at all. Didnt really liek the car at all and the guy was very pushy and unreasonable.
So I went home and started looking for another VL. Went on ebay came across a white exec in good condition and for only 1500. Went had a look at it on tuesday night. Payd for it and picked it up on Thrusday. Turns out it was a BT1 and the car has treated me really well and it was in such good condition especially interior wise cos it was a grandpa's car. I now plan on either adding a turbo when im off my p's or buying a calais turbo.

Uh huh, I hear that! project VL Berlina N/A Auto to VL Berlina Turbo Manual is nearing completion!
Firstly it was the little "kick" on the bootlid...along with the sleek body. Just beats the sh*t out of the other cars in looks easily.
When my first VL (SL) started playing up (damn AFM), I bought a mint VS S-pak manual.....wrapped it round a tree. Went back to the old VL SL 5 speed.....realised how much I missed it, and how much better the V6 looked around the tree. Revs so much smoother, fantastic straight 6.
I've since owned an Executive, Calais, and currently a Berlina. But the Berlina still got that kickarse Calais front!!!

24-09-07, 13:32 GMT+10#60 My older brother had two VL's in his time and I loved them, so basically he got me hooked. I recently found out my uncle had a VL Berlina Turbo. Must run in the family.
So bought my first car, was a VL for $1200 (plus an extra $400, for the rims they were seperate but bought them at the same time as the VL), and it still is my only car today. Anyhow soon, I'll be saving for a VL Calais or a VL Berlina Turbo.
And my current VL will just be a secondary car.
