Out of the gt series, what turbo would you reckonmend for me to run 11-12's???? obviously with slicks. I've got a haltech ek6, custom exhaust manifold, front mount, jd plenum, 550 injectors, headwork, cam, valve springs, in a fully rebuilt engine, tricked up auto and a nine inch with 3.9's in the torana.
if it's to be street driven more than track driven, i'd get the GT35/40 with .86 rear. they ramp the boost pretty damn hard though, you might not like it due to personal preference. for a bit more lag but a smoother, less violent power hit i'd go the 1.06 rear
this is just from what i have HEARD people say they are like, have heard this from quite a few RB30's with similar mods.

21-06-05, 00:00 GMT+10#42 It will be street driven, but I also want to pull some decent times at the drags. I really don't have a personal preference, just want something that is going to do the job, be reliable, run big boost when required, and pretty much suit my setup. I'm not looking at making huge kw's would be more than happy with 250-300 rwkws and then worry about putting that to the ground.
What are gt40's like?

24-11-08, 12:19 GMT+10#46 TA45s still popular on the rotor scene. Nothing wrong with them they're just less refined and responsive than a 51 or 42.

The mate I mentioned above end up getting the car going with the ta51 mentioned. He put a 1.0 rear housing on it, on a 6boost manifold with front mount, 600cc injectors, jd custom plenum and wolf3d computer. The car made 255kws on only 10psi, with plenty more left. Unfortunately the clutch started slipping the first time he took it out the drags, it ran a 13.0 at 112mph on street tyres. Not long after his missus fell pregnant and they had a baby girl, so the vl was converted back to NA... with all the gear still sitting in his shed waiting, including a built powerglide.
Im my opinion the ta51 wasn't that laggy at all and was fine for street driving, we used to cruise around in it quite abit, it used to roll on second no worries and be skatey in 3rd. I think this is because changing down to the 1.0 rear housing helped spool times. There was definately heaps more left in it and matched with that glide, on 20psi I reckon it would have run low 11's without too many dramas...
I would love to see comparisons of spool times and power output on the same car, same everything, same turbo dimensions just one being ball bearing and one plain bearing.

i only ask cause i've come accross a cheap TA45 and if its not too bad on a VL it would be alright on a 2JZ.
if the spool times are too ****, i can get a rear wheel change done pretty cheap apparently, so might justify the cheap purchase price
do you remember when it came on full boost with the T51?

24-11-08, 21:30 GMT+10#50 fullboost by 4000-4200... if memory serves me correctly... I will find out for sure though, I never drove it with the TA, but I can tell you it used to boogie...
A 2J will spool one of these turbos no worries!!!! It will love it!!!
