Oil moves within the valve body to apply pistons. If this oil has to slow down through small holes then the rate at which it can apply the piston is slow. Remove these restrictions and faster apply rates results in firmer shifts. Harder springs either cause a delay when something happens or create higher working pressures. By a combination of the above, you have a shift kit.

No, thats a short shift kit for a manual gearbox. what that does is makes the distance that you have to move the stick shorter, hence faster shifting. These kits from Keas are for automatic gearboxes, and it firms up the shifts, making shifts faster and harder. Faster changes mean less heat, causing less wear to the bands and clutches etc.

Quote: Gav or Neil.... did u leave out the various springs and ballbearings/cups etc that the Keas instructions had shown? also did u drill out the hole shown in the instructions?? i was going to delete the O/D accumulator spring but just never got round to it, i'm too lazy. i didn't drill any holes either, simply didn't need to. it's firm and hard enough as it is. it's a 220,000km old auto, i expect it to die soon with what i'm putting it through. bring on the R33 five speed i say!
