17-04-05, 19:33 GMT+10#42 damn, i must of really struck it lucky when i got mine (for free also) i knew **** all about XF tb mod before hand. My dad just had a ZK fairlane he was getting rid of, and i heard about the XF tb mod before so i thought i would see what size the fairlane one was, and it was same as the XF and looks pretty much the same as the xf one.
Also scored a 25 spline LSD center out of that car
Anyhow, those little red and green pipes ain't gonna affect your performance. its only for pollution **** haha

Car was still in the "project" stage of its life. thats why the power steering wasn't completely full yet
and sorry, i'm not sure what to do with the auto wires. I belive it would be easiest to modify the VL auto TPS onto the XF TB

05-06-05, 16:49 GMT+10#46 ok, so i've got my xf throttle body. the wrecker assured me it was a series 2. (trustworthy as they are) however, i don't have the big black TPS. I have a little grey one with a black ring around the butterfly shaft.
can i use this or will i have to change it to a big black TPS or should I throw it in the bin and get another one?

05-06-05, 19:53 GMT+10#47 about the TPS...
would i be better off buying an XF TPS or a VL TPS to put on my xf t/b? i think i've got the variable resistor type and need the on/off switch type, but just need to know which one will be easier to fit and which will work better out of VL and XF TPS..

05-06-05, 21:06 GMT+10#48 Probably be best to make the VL one fit if you don't have the on/off XF tps one. How that is done, i don't know. Maybe a few other people that have used the VL tps can share?

11-06-05, 13:59 GMT+10#53 i've already done that and have found one for less than half what the wreckers wanted.
why am i a little girl for wanting to save money? i don't know about you, but i don't like being shafted for a part of questionable quality. each to their own i suppose..

17-06-05, 04:06 GMT+10#54 I did the same modification to my old ET turbo once upon a time.. I fitted a VL TB to it, which is about the same difference as putting an XF TB on a VL...
It did make slightly more power, approx 2kw atw on the dyno.
But the extra power insn't the reason for doing this modification. It mainly affects throttle sensitivity.
If you've ever driven a powerful newer EFI car, and then got back into your VL, you'll notice that the other car got moving and had more power with less throttle than your VL..
So in doing this modification, it basically makes your VL feel like a more powerful car to drive on a day to day basis.

17-06-05, 16:39 GMT+10#55 one more question...
what tb screws did you use? the VL ones are too long and they have a washer on them that fouls on the XF tb.

17-06-05, 18:14 GMT+10#56 just to let you know mate that pipe with the red ring has a hole on the inside of the TB which isnt far off from the green one.

Have you tried adjusting the screw on the computer back to nothing and then adjusting the idle at the plenum, should work a treat.
