17-06-05, 23:23 GMT+10#42 Nizpro did years ago doing a 10.8,But thats how far you will go in a manual down 1/4mile unless you got a dog box to cut down the times quiker...Most would go for the auto for this purpose...

Yer this is sort of true, Holdens ran the alloy forks, i broke two of mine and used Nissan Patrol steel items

18-06-05, 13:59 GMT+10#46 I never ran the 1/4, only the 1/8th, constant 8.05 to 8.10, thats a high 12, not bad for pretty stock engine

18-06-05, 14:14 GMT+10#47 dumping at the rev limiter in first you still get traction? i've never tried slicks but thought they'd still spin at those sort of revs and boost. so how do you manage the burnout to warm them up? 2nd?

18-06-05, 16:08 GMT+10#48 You start in the water in 2nd to get the tyres hot, just get the boost on and creep outa the water and spin till you start to grip, then back up and stage, i got no wheel spin off the line at the limiter

I reckon you could do it, it would be hard on the box but.
My understanding is that the MX7 is on par with the Rb25 in terms of strength (Could benefit from steel selector forks but) and the GTR is the same with a transfer case. High tens should be do-able with the stick shift so long as you don't do it every Wednesday night.
dont mx7's only have single synchros whereas the rb25 has double synchros in 1st 2nd and 3rd. would be much stronger
i also heard the rb20 box has double synchros in 1st and 2nd aswell
i know everyone says the rb20 box is sh!t but wouldnt it withhold more abuse
what makes the mx7 so strong?

19-06-05, 17:10 GMT+10#51 MX7 Gearboxes are same internally as the Turbo 300ZX Z32's just there casing is different...

19-06-05, 17:35 GMT+10#52 Not quite rube's, there almost 100% different, all the ratios are different, Holden(MX7) got one off gears, not one shaft or gear is interchangable, but the shifters and forks are the same.
Yes the casings are interchangable but thats it really!

Just curious mate what rwhp did your car make to run that time with the manual?

23-06-05, 15:06 GMT+10#54 A little off topic but a mate of mines R32 with RB26 conversion was running the R34 RB25 5spd, think it had around 260kw@the wheels and he had nothing but issues from what I can remember.
I think last time we were out he lost reverse and 4th?......

23-06-05, 15:19 GMT+10#55 MX7 Should easy pull off lol 11's, even breaking the 10 second mark.
New expensive ECU will also help you keep your box alive with it knowing when your changing, which changes to a diff map, once your back in gear it instantly throws the power setting map back in. I'm not sure how it exactly works, but talking to a few people who know their sh*t, thats what i gathered.
I'm hoping to get mid 11's in a few weeks when i take my car to the 1/4 for the 1st time. Ill let you know how i went.
