28-09-04, 11:45 GMT+10#41 it looks alot like the T3 flange turbo u find on a RB25DET i always thought that it was a RB20DET T3 but i could be wrong i know my 1 is ball bearing by the bigger size center.
the RB20DET all the pipes are the same and all i noticed with the RB20DET turbo that it has the wastegate pipe str8 to the Turbo housing and the T3 from the RB25DET has the pipe to go to the Plenum mine is the same.
check these out.

29-09-04, 20:24 GMT+10#42 I'd say thats straight off an RB25 IMO.
I was just looking at a mates the other day, looks identical, internal wastegate which is part of the exhaust housing and not part of the exhaust dump like on the stock vlt turbo.
Not alot else it can be if its ball bearing as far as skyline turbos go. Is the manifold as custom jobby? I always thought that the 20/25 manifolds would not bolt up but it certainly sits at the same angles at the 25det unit.

30-09-04, 03:59 GMT+10#43 the manifold is stock standard 20/25 unit im starting to think that it is a RB25DET T3 and not a T3 From a RB20DET i know these turbos are only decent for up to 14 psi cause of ceramic turbine wheels but if this is a RB25DET T3 why is my power so low.

01-10-04, 11:42 GMT+10#44 Im just think if the Rb25DET T3 is a good turbo why am i get 150RWKW on 10 psi with all my mods????
i cant work it out strange as i think i might have a look at my cat i think it might be a lil blocked im not sure cause im getting gas smell coming out badley and exhaust isnt loud at all 4 a 3 inch i havnet had any boosting problems though.

01-10-04, 23:26 GMT+10#45 There's a lot of guessing here....you really need to know what your compression ratio is. Talk to an engine builder and see if it's possible to measure the combustion chamber volume without pulling the head off. The method i described earlier should work but can't say for sure as i havn't tried it. If that proves to be 7.5:1 (with the turbo pistons) then this could explain the low power.

02-10-04, 14:09 GMT+10#46 well as i said im getting 92 psi on all cylinders and the other night i checked down my bore and felt with a screwdriver to see where the vavle ports on the pistons are i felt the edges but i dont seem to have that high bit in the middle of the piston.
if i dont have that i have NA pistons right.
u think maybe my ring lands on all pistons are gone?

02-10-04, 22:10 GMT+10#47 If you don't have the high bit, i would say you have turbo pistons. The lower the piston crown, the greater the volume in the combustion chamber. The displacement volume (length of stroke X bore area) will remain constant, so an increase in combustion chamber volume will give a lower compression ratio.
I'd very much doubt ALL the ring lands are gone.
Like i said earlier, do not assume anything. I don't think a compression test is an accurate way to determine compression ratio. It is more to find differences between cylinders. The only accurate way to get the compression ratio is to measure and calculate it.

04-10-04, 10:23 GMT+10#48 will it cost me a fortune just to get them to look and see wats inside the RB30DET or wat??

04-10-04, 16:06 GMT+10#50 man i bought the car from a car yard i have no idea and the car yard is gone nows anywayz even so when u trade your car in if you have no reciepts all you can do is go by wat the dealer says to you i dont believe them but he said theres $10,000 worth of running gear and it was tuned by rigoli i didnt believe a word of it at all and i had 2 get it tuned cause it was way out of tune.

07-10-04, 17:55 GMT+10#52 Well if i do have a RB20DET turbo that would impose a 160 RWKW limit now i guess im running 10 psi and got 150rwkw so im guessing a lil more boost and limit of 160rwkw is reached.
but then if i go get a Bigger turbo say a T04B would i be lagging like hell if i am running Turbo pistons with the RB25 head?

07-10-04, 18:03 GMT+10#53 man.seriously all this fkin around.why dont you just pull the head off it and see whats there?you could have done it 10 times by now

07-10-04, 19:14 GMT+10#54 i dont wanna have to start pulling things apart for no real reason you know what i mean if it was stuffed then id do it.
i know it sounds like a good idea but i really want to avoid doing that.

07-10-04, 21:52 GMT+10#55 btw thats definetely a rb20 turbo not rb25
and if your only making 150kws at the wheels on 10 psi it just doesnt sound right something is letting you down and im guessing its the turbo

08-10-04, 11:51 GMT+10#56 Yea im guessing the turbo aswell cause i was reading that the RB20 turbo makes about 160rwkw and like im at 10 psi another 4 psi and ill be at maxium range for the turbo and i think ill be making 160kw or a lil more.
well i might soon be upgrading to a TO4B just saving and a external wastegate aswell.

If you want to know for sure, do some surgery. For the price of a few gaskets, you'd be mad not to.
Once the engine is sorted, then look at the turb. Forget about old skool TO4's, go the GT30/35 for a few extra bucks.

08-10-04, 21:30 GMT+10#58 yer i dont have the Knowledge to start pulling apart my engine just to check what pistons are inside i wouldnt know if i could put it all back 2gether and so on.
Thats why i wanted to build an engine off the car so i can give it a try but i dont lose the driving of my car
u know what i mean guys
