26-09-04, 22:11 GMT+10#41 yeah, i think i might just use the standard intake pipes also for the time been. Once its all in the car, i'll just take it somewhere and say "make a nice fat ass pipe to go from here to here" haha

I guess the best way to do it would be to have an XF plenum plate welded to your plenum, but unless you're gunna get the plenum plate cut and re-welded, you'll need a tapered mounting block. Mine's about 2mm at the top and 4mm at the bottom and gives just enough clearance to fit a joiner hose between the TB and the intake tube.

01-10-04, 12:14 GMT+10#44 PASTICAL... i hope you can fit the throttle body onto it!
It actually would make a bit of difference when you compare the original with the XF tb!
looks HUGE!!!!!

14-10-04, 13:05 GMT+10#45 so how you going now PASTICAL?
Nearly fitted it?
Has you car been off the road seeing you have the moanifold off? or did you just use another stock manifold?

14-10-04, 15:53 GMT+10#46 Motor still in the exact same postion as in that last photo i put up. I'm working on the car sides of things now for putting the motor in. Remember i said this is all going into a VK a few posts back? So i gotta do all the wiring, and change front crossmember, etc. I'm still waiting on getting my cam back also before the motor is complete.
I'm thinking of putting a SC14 supercharger onto it also. Probably won't do that until after christmas but. Motor should be all in the car and going before end of november.
oh, and for the driving car sides of things, my friend just brought a series 4 rx7 turbo, so i get his old car to drive around in for as long as i want. yey!

21-10-04, 20:09 GMT+10#48 well, boring out the TB hole on the intake was the hardest and most time consuming part. I would say i spent around 8 - 10hours on the bugger (using electric tools also) Rest of the stuff is all done in about a hour.
Hoping to paint the engine bay this weekend, and then put the motor, and gearbox, and wiring in weekend after. Replacing a heap of suspen rubbers when the engine frame is out also, and cleaning it all up. Gonna look good when done The colour of my rocker cover is the colour i'm gonna paint the entire car. But i'm gonna try and get it in metallic instead of solid.
Gonna start playing around with fibreglass stuff and try and make some door pods, and rear parcel shelf also. Considering i started all this planing on only spending about $1k all up, i've gone WAYYY over budget. haha

08-11-04, 06:30 GMT+10#50 Wow! Nice job mate! If the engine bay is this good looking then I can't wait to see the whole car. I also like it how you have buffed the inlet manifold - looks good all nice and fresh alloy, along with the tb.

I could write up a basic tech article, but i haven't really completely finished it yet. Still got a bit of plumbing work to do to one of the holes on the TB. Need to find some 14mm copper pipe. Plus i also have to do the intake pipe. But i've already got a good idea on how to do that cheaply

26-11-04, 19:35 GMT+10#58 Wow, that pic of the two t/b's really shows the difference in size.
Pastical, Where in townsville did you get your t/b? How much was it? How much else do you need to spend to fit it up and wire it into the vl loom, or does it mantain the standard loom and tps?

26-11-04, 20:38 GMT+10#59 got the tb out of a wreck in my dads back yard, so cost me nothing. And wiring up the loom i haven't done yet. But all that appears that needs doing is changing 2 wires around on the vl plug, and completely removing the 3rd one. I'm not 100% about this however (cuz i haven't done it yet) but from testing different readings i get from the old vl tb, that is what i've worked out

27-11-04, 18:01 GMT+10#60 I scored a spare plenum a few weeks ago and have just got around to welding & porting it properly - I found it was necessary to fill around the neck of the plenum to get the port to full diameter.
If anyone's interested:
If you're thinking of bolting on the tb without welding and porting, I've done some maths:
At the original port size (51mm Dia), the internal area of the port is 8,171 Sq mm. If you port that as far as you can without welding the neck, you might get to 61mm Dia, or 11,689 Sq mm. But by welding and taking it all the way out to 68mm Dia, you'll get 14,526 Sq mm.
So, assuming that the pressure remains the same and the plenum neck is the smallest internal diameter of the air intake, 61mm = 43% flow increase, but 68mm = 78% increase!
Hope that helps.
