Its not just a matter of turning the boost down to 5 psi, especially on mega hp cars with detailed engine bays, custom gear, etc. You would have to lean the engine out quite a bit to pass this test from what I have heard. Just load this map in the minute you drive into the EPA/testing place (via a handy laptop) do the test and then load the 'normal' map up afterwards. And if you do fail the test, it is always on record that you have failed an emissions test, and Im sure if the police wanted to they could get a hold of that to deem your car defectable.
Also, if you do fail, what happens to your $1700-2500? You'd want to be pretty sure of passing before handing over 17 green ones, only for them to say "yeah your car has failed. Come back next time" Most ppl dont have that money lying around on the very off chance this sort of thing happens.
thats right omy30L if you fail then youv waisted 1700 odd and ya cant just lean it out has to pass co2 no2 hydrocarbons leaning it out makes the no2 go through the roof so has to be perfect and yer just swap maps as needed
it's called an emissions compliance test, ford do it, holden do it, etc etc... they put your car in a heated room with bags of some sort to collect all the fumes/vapors, and they run the car, heat it up etc... then they measure the total emissions of all sorts from the car and pass/fail you and give you a ince bit of paper... apparantly from talking to a guy at the epa and a few workshops you can get a test for 500 that will give you an indication of wethre you will pass or fail the final exam. i've thought about looking into it atsome point if i decide to go for an aftermarket ecu etc... something to ponder on guys. if i'm wrong about anything feel free to correct me but that's my understanding of it.
