i don't think VL's will increase in value. Special ones like LE's will. calais tubros will probably hold their value. But the majority of them wont.

We're all forgetting, in 30 years, we probably won't even have petrol cars anymore. That'll put a bummer on car prices. An FJ is the first big selling holden ever, of course it's a collector's car, they're an iconic piece of Australian history. There's no comparison. You know when VLT's will be worth money? When all the people on here who sell their car now to buy a house, or whatever, have their house, wife and their 2.4 children, and want to recapture their youth. Like the old guys now are paying big dollars for the muscle cars of their time, people will pay big bucks for a VLT so they can boost around and bull**** about how the VL they had as a 18 yr old was running 35 psi and had 400 rwhp.... And will people stop bringing up XU-1s and stuff? They were limited build Bathurst homolgation race specials. There's no comparison between that and a turbo executive VL.

Most people buy their VLT for a low price to build them up to how they want them to be for them selves. Hence a lot of guys buy n/a to later down the track (mostly dew to finance) convert then to turbo's. A lot of young guys on here dont have 10k+ to buy a VLCT off the bat. 10k is still a lot of money to a lot of people in this world. So put the price of VLCT's up and see how long this site will last, as the demand will decline dramatically. There was a pole on here to get the average age of people on here, I believe 50% on here are under the age of 20, how many 20 year old can afford 10k+ for a 18+ year old car. Remembering majority would still be living at home, so there farther would still have a huge impact in the decision there about to make. I also work in a area where the average age is 22 and under, and on a average wage of 44k after tax per annum. They laugh at the idea of VLT's, go straight to imports or buy the latest Holden Ute and mod them. If you think what I'm saying is crap go to the nearest Army barracks and have a look your self. And yes you do get what you pay for and from what I have seen on this forum the people that have payed 8-8.5k for there VLs are happy with their buy and are happy with moding them to how they want them (which is what Street Machining is all about). We cant all be rich like some on here. Im also a strong believer in majority rulz.

VLT's are awesome cars for the money, but if we all had the big bucks, like VLT_RB30 says, we'd prolly be driving something else. I'd be driving something even older, but that's just me [dreams of original GT40] Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

That is what it is about really, best bang for your buck. We all dream of driving a fast high performance car, but the reality is that most of us are just wage slaves. Turbos are excellent ways to get good performance reasonably cheaply, and they are easy to modify. There are also lots of parts for these cars around, so keeping one going is not too difficult either. The price and value of anything really comes down to supply and demand. Another thing, as others have said, if you have $20,000+ to spend on a car, would you buy a VL, or something a bit more up market and recent ? If you had the choice between an original VLT and a five year old Skyline GTST and they cost exactly the same, which would you buy ?

look at the cars that are collectors items.most (in australia)have a history of racing at bathurst.like it or not the fact that the vlct never raced at bathurst will mean it will never become a collectors car. it is an enthusiasts car,not a collectors car.

Cult: a person or thing that is popular or fashionable, especially among a particular section of society. Enthusiast: a person who is highly interested in a particular activity or subject. Cult car, describes these cars to a tee.

Bringing back an old thread. So 10 years on, has anyone changed there mind? Vlct's are getting rare in original condition and parts are becoming expensive, is it time to start considering restoring rather than modifying? I believe the VLCT is the only unique model Holden released (apart from hsv badged holdens) since early GTS days. I would say it has been even more popular among enthusiasts than any other model. Tell me there isn't a single Holden fan that isn't aware of the unique performance ability of the VLT and its reputation stands stronger than any other Holden I know of (my era).

I was a holden salesman for 5 years and they already have turbo v6s in the states.. they run buick engines like the vn vps.. I dont think they will bring them to aus but you never know cause the new holden cruse 1.6 turbo petrol has been in the states for almost 10 years now.. Seems they are only in australia untill 2017 they might throw something nice together..

It might be turbo, but nothing will match the cult status of the Nissan rb30 under the bonnet of an Aussie commodore Boosted Gm v6, meh...

VL for life. I meet people on a daily basis that reminisce in the presence of a VLT and VL respectively. -Great car, I use to have one etc... Don't get that in any other car I've owned. The average guy doesn't buy a car because its worth a lot of money. He doesn't buy it because its rare, these things are consequential. ...He buys it because he wants it. If vl's are rare one day and he wants a nice one he will pay. Some people collect spoons, admiration is not an exercise in logic..

For me VLTs are an addiction, I grew up with them my grandfather bought one brand new when I was young and my first car was a VL, well first 3 cars actually. Over the years I've bought later model v8 commodores but always end up going back to VLT's and every time I sell one I swear I'll never buy another but after a year or 2 there is another one parked in my driveway much to my wifes annoyance because she hates them and says that I'm just trying to recapture my youth (I'm only 34). But the one I can never bring myself to sell is my first turbo I bought in 2001, my bt1 I've actually owned it longer than I've been with my wife. I'll never sell it because it's a genuine bt1 and never been crashed and when I was young I had no money to mod it besides 3" exhaust and pod filter but being a spray painter by trade I have stripped it down and repaired and primed it but that was 8 years ago before mortgage, kids etc but it's sitting safely in the shed for one day. I don't care if it doesn't increase in value to me it's priceless, but after I'm gone it goes to the kids and if they sell it well I hope they get some good money for it. One thing I have noticed 5-10 years ago I used to pick up good running unregisted n/a vls to put out on the farm as parts cars for $200-$300, can't get them anymore now the same condition ones fetch over $1000
