Yeah, thats next up for me, good alarm, central locking, plates over the locks, and shaved locks. Locked the keys in my car last night, the good people from RACQ managed to break in within 20 seconds.

When car got painted , The crash repair removed the left hand door lock for me. Has not affected the central locking whatsoever.

My car got broken into a while ago... screwdriver through the passengers door just below the lock. Luckily it was while i was at work and the car was about 2 meters away from me and when the central locking activated it set the alarm off and scared them off. I had the repairer remove the lock and weld it up etc. Cost me about $300 but that door is no longer a target. I plan to have the drivers door lock removed and have either to move the battery to the boot or to run terminals into the boot... just incase i get a flat battery... Personally if someones going to break into my car i prefer they broke the window rather than damage the body work. BTW.. I did have one problem with the removal of the lock... the arm that the repairer left on got caught in the door and it wouldn;t lock... 20mins taking of the door skin and messing around had the problem licked... but i regularly check to make sure all the doos lock when they should.

solex locks, around 3 kill switches, a club lock and if its auto a padlock on the T-bar to prevent it from getting out of park :P should be pretty safe then, those are the only mods i'm gonna do to my car n then when i got the cash install an alarm too.

I know someone who has this huge thick chain which is wrapped around the pedals and the steering wheel, he also has a lock on the auto and it's only a Datsun 240 hehe.

Padlock on the T bar doesn't do squat you can take it apart very easily slip off the padlock then put it back together in about 15 seconds. A mate used to do it to his VH until I showed him how easy it was to get around. Still does it though says he does it just for looks to scare people off. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

And another thing... VL's already have a lock on the steering wheel that doesn't allow it to turn, so unless its for bashing thieves when you catch them trying to steal your car a clublock is pretty pointless as well. I say just invest in a really good alarm and be careful where you park it, and some hidden kill switches should do the trick.

I mean there's a way around everything, but its a cheap mod and it will put off amateurs who might think ah screw it i won't get into that, I mean doesnt cost much. Its just like solex locks. You can get into those too, but it will still put off alot of theives. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yea the best defence is to have ur car in a garage! and front lawns wont do eather - my car got down on my front lawn 5 meters away from where my parents where sleeping - i'm up the other end of the house. Best way is to make sure that u dont leave any thing for them to steal - dont put massive stickers on ur car, advertising what u have - i have now installed a sec. system with knock sensors and bonnet and boot pins - LED in the car immobiliser and all the goodies - the parking inspector cant put a ticket on my car without make her upset and send out a warning - but it dont get set off by traffic people just dont stop for alarms any more - but when ever i hear an alarm and i'm near or going past - i always stop in ALWAYS! even if they think i'm a bit suss - its just helps people think that it might happen to them and they may think twice!@ bextor - sounds like the same thing that happened to me - back quarter window, internal light, ash try then heady - and if they see amp RCA's then they do ur boot :P its that simple - best way is to not make it easy for them - and head units can be replaced - just make sure they cant take ur baby!

Very first thing I bought when I got my car was a clublock. Now I have an immoboliser installed but I was thinking of getting a sensor alarm. How much do they cost approximately?

i was going to shave my door locks off after my car was broken into but i had my central problem which wasnt from a rod but fron the rubber boot around the actuator was getting stuck and not unlocking the door this would have been a ******* even now with it fixed i still check after i press my alarm 2 see if the doors are still locked. i know my alarm has a voltage drop detector as soon as central locking is activated or a interior light comes on the alarm goes off. got imobilzer on fuel pump and i also still take out my ECU.

a good alarm is about 800 - 900 not fitted.. however in the for sale section, you'll notice that one of the site sponsors is selling these viper alarms for around the $400 mark, then you need to have it fitted... i find that kill switches are the way to go... 2 or 3 of them and a master switch... all hidden in different locations.. it may be a pain in the ass every time you get into your car to have to dig around and flick 4 switches. but its better than losing your car to some low life sh!tbag who thinks he has the right to take what's not his... (i hate thieves.. i hate them more than i hate AU falcons..)

I use a combination of all these, especially when the car's parked for long periods. A club lock, a kill switch, a fuse and few dizzy cables pulled out for good measure. Hell, it's no guarantee for a complete lockdown, but time is always a thief's chief enemy. And most importantly, don't leave anything in the car. Personally, alarms do **** all for me (and my mate whose car was stolen with one). In some cases they just cry wolf, hence some people are quite apathetic to these things.
