It's a very easy job, shouldn't cost more than 2 hours labour

after soaking them in diesel for a couple of days, did you then soak them in new clean oil to prime them before putting them back in the head ??

I have liffters i took from a wrecked n/a vl they have currently been soaking in diesel for about 2 days alot of old oil coming off them the diesel has changed colour. How do i tell if they are good lifters or if they are busted. I have examined them all and they all have no scratches or marks on them.

I'm going to ask my dyno guy to have a look at the lifters while hes doing all the other stuff to my car and am just wondering what are the chances of some of the lifters being stuffed in a VL turbo engine with 150,000 odd kays on it and also with a custom grind cam in it ... Just wondering if it's worth replacing them or some of them or ???f@#k I dont really know a bit confused.....

Hi There, Just reading a few of the replys that people have, and i was wondering why the timing needs to be marked when changing the lifters. could someone please explain this a little bit more for me. Any help would be appriciated cheers

timing doesnt need to be marked, just set ur cam gear to face up so that rear rockers arent under tension and can be bolted down, and then turn the cam gear 180 degrees to bolt the front rockers shafts down

I have another question for you. At the moment the lifters are out of the head and i have found one that has been chipped away on the top (Definitely buggered). Now how do i tell if the rest are ok to put back in the head, they all look phisically perfect but there was lifter noise in the motor. Also does it matter if the rockers move side to side and up and down when in the head? Thank you again.

see if they are compressible by hand, and if the mating surfaces seem nice and flat. thats pretty much it. if they look perfect then they're usually fine to reuse. rockers should have very slight side to side movement along the shaft, but up and down movement should be minimal to none

Hi guys, I'm changing my lifters at the moment. Just went with a set of after market ones as genuine are $60 compared to $11 from repco. My question is why do you have to rotate the engine to certain positions before tightening the bolts? All they seem to do is hold everything down so I can't see why you can't just replace and retighten as is....

My question is as i didnt change cam just had to retighten rocker cradle bolts is will it cause damage to engine if i just leave it as speced in the ellery manual?
