i spoke to them, got a part number - it's for standard height Koni yellow front shocks. Are these going to be ok with low springs / ride height? The koni rep wasn't sure if it would be ok or not, and i'm scared to spend $650 and find that there isn't enough movement in the shocker!! Thanks a lot of the photos you emailed Brent, they are very helpful!!

Thanks a lot of the photos you emailed Brent, they are very helpful!! I got a shorter strut, but u need to cut down the leg and thread the top for the retaining nut. I think u can send the legs to top performance and they will fit the short struts for a price. It means alot less droop and more bump (less travel over all), which u need to get a lowered VL roadworthy. If the body is at it's legal lowest there is not enough bump left to pass. I found that out myself...

how much bump do you need for a roadworthy there? when you fit race strut tops they are thinner so you get more bump at low heights, fitting rebound limiters is the way to reduce droop, then you dont have to chop up your stut body.

Off the top of my head we need a 3rd of the total travel in bump. I've put the shorter shocks and fitted bearing tops that gives about 25mm less droop/more bump. I only have about 60mm of droop at a very lowered ride height! In my case i had to chop the strut to fit the threaded tube anyway so it didn't make any difference to me.

with the koni bearing tops, whats your stab - so long as i keep the car at or above the legal height, will the standard length shocks be ok?

Standard length shocks should be ok, but with increased bump which u get with compact strut tops. I gained more that 25mm bump.

I have got a few quick question. I am planning on putting coil overs on my Calais sometime next week. One reason I wanted to do this other than handling is to have height adjustable suspension. If I get it fitted, obviously to lower my car I will have to wind the adj platform down(in the front). Causing the strut to work closer to where it will bottom out. Provided that it doesnt bottom out is there anything wrong with this? I suppose what I am trying to say is does the dampening of a std strut work variably or consistantly? I hope thats not too confusing... Also how do you work out the best height for the springs just use stock height? And for a street driven car would you suggest say 350front and say 300 rear? I would like it to handle well at the same time obviously. HSVSUX thanks for all your help allready BTW I am using a mates login name at the moment. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Are you being sarcastic??? Whats wrong with using search and bringing up an old thread? The next person that uses the search button looking for information on coil overs will find it all in one thread not a heap of different threads. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Nothing wrong with old threads! The struts are consistant through the full movement so yeah as long as you're not scraping the belly on the ground they shouldn't bottom out. Just be do some research and try to find springs that still capture or use a keeper spring aswell. 300lb/in wasn't too bad in the front of my calais, no heaver for street. But u only want 150's in the rear. the 200's i've got are almost too stiff for the track... Cheers.

Thanks TwinVL! very much appreciated. I will probably go 300s and 150s then As for length should I keep them same as standard? Edward Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
