Has anyone bought some gear oil from holden for the MX7 lately? If so, do you know what the part no was? I have been looking for 80W oil and cant get it in anything less than a 20Lt drum from mobil. I found some SMX-O at my local holden dealer thinking it was the Castrol oil I was looking for (thats the oil the castrol site says to use) but when I went to put it in and opened the bottle, the oil inside was red like auto fluid and not gold colour. The gear oil I got from holden doesnt have a brand name on it so I am unsure of whether it's the right oil. Holden are shut till monday now and I had to put the old oil back in the box, wasn't happy 'bout doing that.

The only place i can usually find it is supercheap auto. Although i think Repco might have it as well? Every other place on carries 75-90. Castrol VMX80 gear oil. In a red bottle 1L. Mick

SMX-O is the older name for syntrans, which is 75w-85 (not syntrax which is 75w-90).. autobarn here in adelaide sell it, i have it in my mx7.

Looks like my master cylinder is the culprit. Pumping the pedal builds no pressure, and with someone watching the fluid level, it doesn't change at all, swirls a bit but no level drop a all. Local gearbox guy said it sounds to him like the seals in the master are worn or have gone porous, allowing fluid to leak back past them into the reservoir. Can get a new one for around $90, might just replace it.
