i will highlight the fact that .. that info is taken from GCG website and i belive it to be slightly incorrect. It states that the GT35 uses a T04s wheel, where as other GT35's use the GT40 wheel or something similar...
check out Ray Hall's website for a more comprehensive spec table
Yeah, it depends what site you get all the info from it seems.
All of them are similar, but there are differences etc with Wheels and what they are/are not.
I havent seen anything from Garrett Specifically though, anyone have a link?
the GT30 TURBOS have T04s wheel , these come in .82 houseing
the GT35 TURBOS have GT40 wheel, these come in .83 houseing, and i have the complete GT Series PDF here if someone wants to attach it for all to see ?
Nice old thread.
I thought I would add what I have been told and learnt after reading lots. :P
The GT35R (not the GT35, they are two different turbo's)
0.63 a/r = ~550hp
0.82 a/r = ~620hp
1.06 a/r = ~700hp
Back pressure reduces VE.
This is where the extra power comes from with the larger exhaust a/r's.
Increasing VE via a free flowing exhaust/turbine allows more air to flow in to the motor easier and with less restriction.
You match the exhaust a/r to the motor's displacement and rev's to obtain the best overall response (Under the curve) and peak power.
For example.
An RB25DET running a GT30R has no problems running the .82 exhaust a/r as it will continue to make power up until 7000rpm without power flattening out.
That same turbo on the RB30DET requires the larger 1.06 a/r if you want to be able to rev and still make power up close to 7000rpm. Otherwise power and torque will drop off as the backpressure increases and lowers VE ~5500rpm this occurs.
Due to the GT35R's large turbine wheel the exhaust flow is less restriced than say a GT30R with the same exhaust a/r.
This is reflected in the turbine maps as....
GT35R .63 a/r flows roughly the same at roughly the same pressure as the GT30R .82 a/r.
The GT35R .83 a/r flows roughly the same at roughly the same pressure as the GT30R 1.06 a/r.
This I find interesting.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
I have an XR6 turbo on my EB. Its even got grinder marks from where the ford logo has been removed. Its a GT3540 with a .5 front housing and 1.06 rear, internal gate. It is supposed to be good for 600hp according to who I bought it off.
I was under the impression the Xr6 turbo's are GT40's.
The only fault with them is the .5 comp cover. It kills the top end and high boost airflow.
But realistically the XR6 turbo in stock form will crack 300rwkw. So why bother.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Im aiming for 300 with my next retune. Right now on the dead standard engine and 10 psi I have 202rwkw.
Next stage is a decent cam and 15psi. Im hoping it will do it.
What is a new front cover worth? I wouldnt mind a .7 on there.
So in all this techincal jargon which one would suit me best right now the motor is standard bottom end but had been rebuilt recently im led to believe and i want to get to around the 300kw+ mark obviously i know i'l need to update the rest of the package.
In saying that could i just mount the turbo with its external gate and run everything else stock (fuel, ecu, etc) i wouldnt think so but???
Dan,
I know of a RB25/26 that is making 270rwkw on 1bar using the xr6 turbo.
To make the same kind of power I'm estimating you would need another 5psi. (SOHC = more restriction there for higher boost is required for the same airflow)
Total of 19-20psi to make around 270rwkw??? Any one know for sure?
BigAds,
Obviously you will need the usual fueling & airflow support systems.
(FMIC, Exhaust, ECU, Injectors, Fuelpump & sparkplugs)
Then the clutch & possibly a diff if it tends to openwheel after having a bit of power pushed through it.
