Which reminds me...
I only did one supersprint in the Alfa at Eastern Creek. The Alfa's brakes weren't brilliant at the best of times and the fade I got at Eastern Creek was literally frightening. I was on a banzai lap, hit 160 down the main straight, into turn one, coming up to turn 2 slammed on the brakes, stuff-all happened, and instead of just going off the end I panicked and tried to use engine braking. Result: c. 7,500 rpm on the tacho, four bent exhaust valves, $400 for a trip back to Canberra on the back of a truck and several hundred to repair the heads (flat 4 remember)
It was my last serious supersprint as having already blown and had rebuilt the engine and gearbox in previous rounds I decided I couldn't afford to keep going...
No its not. The MX7 form the VL's is the grandaddy (or daddy) of the current generation Skyline 5spds (cant remember their proper technical name).
The new boxes (R33 model) are the same as a GTR box minus the transfer case but the GTR box has stronger internals, there really isnt that much in them though. My mates R33 GTS runs a low 11 all day long and his stock 5spd is holding up fine, the clutch on the other hand....... 8O

I'm interested in this as well for strengthening the MF5 I'm shortly to rebuild. The theory sounds quite valid: you supercool the component to change the crystaline structure to a different and stronger form. (/me thinks back to 3rd year Engineering Materials course with phase diagrams etc...) Question to me is how much of this structure survives when it gets back to room temperature...
Allegedly components such as gears and selectors in gearboxes can benefit from it.
Seems pretty cheap so not a huge waste of money if it doesn't work.
They claim the world with this stuff, up to 300% more strength. I will be a observer on this one. I thought extreme cold made metal brittle. I dont know anyone who has used the treatment so I will wait to hear of someone elses experiences with cryo-tough.

The treatment may seem cheap but what about if you hand over a set of $3000 conrods and this stuff makes them break? Wouldnt seem cheap to me if that happened.

If I had $3k conrods I'd indeed be wanting to see a lot more evidence before risking them.
However, I'm rebuilding a cheap gearbox using stock cpts, different story as far less to lose.
Well if you are doing a cheap box then it would be a good test bed to see if this stuff is as good as they say.
I'll assume you will let us know ho wit all works out.
If I had the 3k conrods, I think shot peening would be the go....for now.
