I do have a magazine article on the development of the turbo kit for a Kingswood as well as an article on the CDT Gemini but none on the CDT Commodore. Might still have some pics of the CDT cars floating around. Corsa Hey thanks for the reply, Yeah it's pretty tough trying to find info on these cars/engines. If you find those pics please let me know. And if anyone else hears or knows anything about CDT models I'd been keen to hear from you. Cheers

I have the Wheels Magazine with the article/ road test on the turbo 6 Commodore when they came out. I posted it on another forum a few years back and from memory, (it is tucked away in my spare room), the handful of 4 cylinder ones that were also made, made just under 50kw at the wheels. The 6's weren't that exciting either. The names of the 2 Victorian and NSW (?) Dealerships that did them are also mentioned in the article. They were a Garrett set up like everyone has said. I also have a 2 page advertising spread for Garrett who were making a turbo set up for the 202 LX Torana when that was current. With some searching, one of these set ups may be found as I know the Datsun L Series HKS (?) ones from the 70s are still around.

Sorry to dig up an old thread. My name is Andy I have just joined. I am big fan of turbo cars as we have a XR6 Turbo, Supra JZA80 Twin Turbo and the original owner of an immaculate VH 2.85 Litre S3 CDT Commodore in the Garage. Our VH commodore was the Series three and came out with the 3.36 diff and Borg Warner T5 5 speed. Back in the day, my old man use to say it was one of the quickest cars on the road and would sit on 220km/h without a problem. When I was 4, I remember my dad blowing the engine while we were doing 190 km/hr over taking a road train on the highway. Damn cylinder number 6 went without fuel and we blew a hole in the piston and scratched the block. The problem was caused by the 3 pound mechanical fuel pump not supplying enough fuel to the engine. These cars werent cheap as they sold for $18,000 in 1982. That would be equal to a Senator in todays market. Back in 1982, the standard VH SL commodore was around $9,000 with the 308 SLE selling for around $12,000. The SS Group Three sold for $20,000 so you can work out the cost. Not too bad for 200 bhp at 9psi with a blow through set up. Our car was the 12 made in its series but we are not to sure how many were made in the end. I still drive the car today. It drives very well for a 25 year old car but it isnt very fuel efficient in the city as the car needs to be warmed up for 5-10 mins before it can be driven.

Some people say that the blue 173 was a much better motor than the 202 plus it came out with the 5 speed box Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

5 speed.... very nice. my dad told me of one of his mates that had an old torrie with a worked 173 in it, he said he could hit 8000rpm in it, and after being told to prove it, on the freeway at ~80mph, he threw it back into second. supposedly it did hit 8 grand, also through 2 rods out the side of the block at the very same time..... i'm sure it was an unrelated problem though Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

These pictures were taken today. It is pretty clean for a car of it's age and it has travelled 185,000 genuine km. The first 70,000 km were done in the first 6 years. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
