wow this is all very interesting.. i dint realise how sorta complicated a supercharger setup is. i was considering doing this with my vp :? ok, i got a throttle body just before the plenum.... now if i were to install a sc14 or sc12 charger, i would have to (to make everything run smoothly) have a throttle body in synchronous with the standard T/B. Also, i would need a bypass valye or blow off valve. Is this correct? i have read all ur threads as carefully as possible and that is my conclusion. By the way, dont these chargers have clutches to turn them on and off? i was planning on using this feature so the engine isnt under load all the time with the SC on all the time. How does this clutch work? thanx

Geoff, it is a pity we live so far apart. It would be great to discuss supercharging over a few beers. I had exactly the same problem when fitting a second throttle body, the spring pressure becomes pretty fierce. But each throttle body actually has two return springs, one wound inside the other. This is a safety measure, and It may even be a legal ADR requirement these days. So if you remove or just unhook one of the springs on each throttle body, it gets back to feeling normal again. You still have two return springs though, but only one on each throttle body. If something terrible happens, and a cable jams, or a spring breaks, at least one of the two throttle bodies is still going to close for you. So it is not as dangerous as it sounds. The other thing is pedal stroke and throttle opening, or synchronising the two throttles. The two throttles may be different types and sizes, but I strongly recommend you use the same opening cam on both throttles. The opening cam is the snail shaped pulley that the throttle cable unwinds from on the end of the throttle body shaft. These things vary a fair bit in shape and size between various throttle bodies. The easy way would be to just get yourself another RB30E throttle body I suppose. Geoff, what you say about the air going round in circles with a bypass is qite true, but it does not seem to be a problem. It sounds like you have a very great deal of experience with these things, but maybe you might like to experiment with a wastegate type blower bypass. I think you will be quite impressed with the difference. If you want to watch it working, get yourself a wastegate, fit a suitable light spring, and go for a drive with the wastegate sitting on the passenger seat where you can watch it. I think you will be fascinated with how quickly and smoothly it responds to throttle position. Cheers, Tony.

been driving now for about a week with the twin throttle bodies installed, huge difference, boost dropped but that would be due to the engine not backing up as much and just flowing that much better, putting my extractors back on today,to see if that helps even more

Hi Nathan. Expect the boost to drop even further with extractors. I have found that there is an almost equal relationship between exhaust back pressure and boost pressure. Even if boost drops to zero, power will be increasing, that is good !

I've driven a couple of blown cars, the best being a C32 AMG Merc. The blower sounds awesome all through the revs, and the no-lag setup is awesome in daily traffic.

can u run twin blowers would it be ****

Yes you can run two blowers, but the difficulty of fitting them in and driving them would make it impractical. It would be much better to fit a single larger blower.

lol, its going to cost a lot more than 300 to supercharge a vl, given the parts costs will be around 600 for this kind of setup. budget for around 1500 for someone else to do it. You might as well turbo it.

Is there a cheap centrifugal supercharger that would supply 900cfm at 15psi and have helical cut gears?

i suggest you do a search for supercharging on this site. there is another two VERY useful threads which might answer your question. it can be done for as little as 200-300 bucks depending on the blower and how much the fabrication stuff costs. then again if you know the right people you can do it much cheaper....

Ive taken apart a throttle body and Twin Throttle is possible, but its a lot of messing around to get it to link properly ! Still game enough to try it though hopefully it would be worth while, but if an n/a can pick up 25hp at the wheels with an XF throttle body, then that shows there is restriction in the standard setup. Hey Guys I've been bighten buy the s/c bug as well after reading up on it. And their's a price list in I think it was Jun street commo's mag the only one they had in there for a rb30 was off a toyota 1G-GZE motor I think that's right. And power was roughly aroung the 155Kw mark. But basically I want one for the somooth power and the fact that it's a everyday car so I'm not going all out with a turbo but will still be able to get up and boogy on the weekends Oh and the sound is sweet But is that the only one that you can get for the vl I was looking around $2000 fitted etc and hopefully get around 160 or more RwKw. But yeah brissie boy never heard of any s/c around hear so just to be different. That and cause I wanna keep my car for a while and want it to run reliable with out have to tune 24/7 like a turbo cause I got up it..... So if you pro's have any good info on this cause the guys I e-mail just have no idea so if any of you could give me any info probs etc since you been there ****ed that would be much appreciated cheers. arian, read the whole goddam post. ALL FOUR PAGES OF IT!!! there is pretty much everything you need to know on blowing a VL in this thread, but each setup is different, so a bit of customisation is needed each and every time. oh, and don't pay a workshop to do it, pick up an SC-14 from AllJap for $295 and get one of your friends to weld up some mounts. also, Stromy should have a kit up and ready soon, so just wait a bit and i'll see what he wants for one and let you know.

dude, if you've got the money, get a Whipple blower in from the states. i think it'll be about 3 grand, but it's a gilmer drive (i think) and will be able to boost about 12-14 psi. however, you *might* want to think about an engine rebuild before that, with a set of forgies to lower the compression a bit. in other words, do exactly what the guy in street commodores did!
