Mmm, just thought about it. Seen a cheap one in a magazine. ---------- Post added 18-10-10 at 21:15 ---------- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-325250357.htm (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Holden/Diffs-axles/auction-325250357.htm) Might seem like a dumb question but my dad aint here to ask so, can I take the brakes off of one of these and put it onto my vl ? They are the same diff after all aren't they, just a little wider, so what has to be changed for the brakes to swap over ?

Ahhh the old plenum debate again... I got my standard one done (rb25det - cut and shut) The guy did a pretty good job on it, and it's hard to tell that is has been modified. It was a reasonable price, but... I tried getting it polished up, but it didn't really come up that well. A mate of mine tidied up the welds and then I got some high temp, 'aluminium' paint and painted it. It has come up OK now, but was probably more hassle than it was worth to be honest. If I did it again, I would probably got for a decent, but much more expensive, off the shelf item. In saying that, it has a few pros - the guy custom made the angle of the intake to suit my application. All the hoses go into the bottom of the plenum, making things look neater. Initial cost was between $150 and $200 so, it is a really good option if your not too fussed on looks and on a budget.

Rear ones can be easier to swap the whole diff (if you got one from a Calais etc) but if not, you need calipers, discs, backing plates (with handbrake shoes attached) disc handbrake cable, and the steel brake line which is slightly different to drums... Main thing you need to change is the bearings and seals from your old axles as the disc ones are different, or if you can get a set of disc brake axles just swap them I think thats all Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im 90% sure the subframe wont fit but you will be able to use your rack on your vl,you will need a subframe out of a vb to vl

wagon diffs have different shock mountings to sedans ,but everything else is the same,rb and v8 diffs out or a vl have the same tailshaft mountings,so it sounds like your v8 diff is out of a vb-vk which makes it a salusbury, which use 2 "U" bolts instead of tw0 flat flanges to bolt the tailshaft to the diff like a rb/borg warner do.you get what i mean?

you can still use it,just take it to a driveshaft shop like "the driveshaft specialests and they will sort you out,it will be cheeper than buying another diff, you should be able to seperate the diff into 2 pieces, use the front half so it fits into your rb gearbox and buy the other half that bolts onto the sauslbury, join them back up agian at the universal joint and away you go,as long as they are the same at the universal
