there's a vid on youtube showing toyota drivers hot lapping trueno sprinters around tsukuba, shifting without straight cut gears like lightning. Still manage sub minute laps, not bad for 200hp back in the 80s.

I think Podowski had trouble with his ppg set at superlap too? No point having the rev cut if you have to lift between 2-3 and 4-5th is there?
Im in now way telling you how to pend your money dude, i know as well as anyone that you will have to do what you want to be happy with it and not left wondering if you should have done it your way. There are just some things I think are just not worth the money, the box is straight cut.
Just a few questions on the par box. How hard have you pushed it. have you ever dropped the clutch in second or third gear. just asking as i got a call back from Dave and it is way cheaper then the ppg box. i like to go to things like the power cruise and do the powerskids so i will be giving it a fair bit of punishment. i have read a fair few bad things about par boxes and also ppg.

Its like anything, treat it with respect and look after it it will last you a long time, flog it, fuck it and treat it like cheap sh1t it will give you problems. There isnt a gear box on the market that will like you doing that to it. How long will it last? How long is a piece of string?
Mine is in a circuit car, it gets 800hp put through it, it revs to 9500rpm and I shift it hard, I dont dump the clutch in 3rd gear. I believe xchase has been giving his par box a harder time than I do in that sense, might pay to shoot him a pm

Well my motor is finally built and was on the engine dyno today. We were tuning it for a few hours and everything was sweet. It is making 15psi and 300 ftlbs of torque at 3000rpm. Done the first power run to 6200rpm on 22 psi and it made 738 hp and 600ftlbs of torque with 15deg timing across the board. Put a few more deg timing in it for the second run. got to about 6000rpm and the turbo blew up so that was the end of that. tuner and engine builder reckons it will make 1000hp no worries. now i just have to wait for the turbo to be fixed.

It was a brand new pt6766. Not real happy about it. took 4 months to get and didn't even get a full run out of it. now the sump has to be pulled off to make sure there is not metal in there.

Shame to hear about that, do you know what caused the turbo malfunction? How were Precision in their customer support?

Don't know what caused it at the moment. as for customer support i still can't get hold of the precision distributor in queensland.

In the scheme of things, I guess it could have been far more catastrophic. Look forward to hearing that it's all back together and back on track, mate.

Guess you will just have to go a 7175 or something and make a thousand haha

Why would i want to do that. The pt6766 will make 1000hp and be way less laggy. It was making full boost at 3650rpm with not much timing and i still haven't played around with the cam timing yet.

for a track VL surely the engine has got to be up there as one of the least important parts to go nuts on? I'm really interested to see the car its going into, and to hear what else you plan to do to make it handle and turn!
Genuinely interested.
Jet3L makes bull**** power for a track car, but if you look at everything else it has in terms of aero and suspension/cage, you will get a picture of how important everything else becomes. Not least of which would be those massive tyres jase runs...

Its not going to be a dedicated track car. I still drive it on the street. Its just gonna be a fun car and i just want to take it to mallala to see what times it can do. I've got adjustable height and damping suspension front and rear and all the usual adjustable bits. Its got big brakes front and rear 365mm 6 piston.

this is funny to me mate dont mean to be rude but.
I recently spent 1.800 bucks on a car n its alot better than any VL iv had as far as fun and Im not emotionaly attached to it. its cheap and it dosent just sit in the car port getting worked on.....
Mate you seem to be pretty temprimental with what you expect from an engine. So much so that u continue to bet double or nothing on unknown packages.
Just seem from your approach that your not sure.
1. What are you altimatly chasing? (you can go skydiving every weekend for 5 years with that cash)
2. When you build an engine thats not scientificly engineerd and to these standards then your asking for trouble
3. The engine is half the story when talking track work right?
4. This is a waste if not using a performance platform like a Skyline GTR
sounds like you are dreaming mate . to much money and to much time.
Get the fastest road bike u can find, spend 10,000 on it and go kill your self lol now thats fun!!!

Only one thing is certain when building an engine.

It is his money though. I'd rather watch someone build an epic motor than shoot 50k up their arm.
I think theres 2 things you need to do:
1. Think about what you actually want. That's so much money and power to be in a grey area over application. A VL can't use more than 400rwhp efficiently on the street, it will turn tyres and go nowhere. A drag style setup won't work on the track and vice versa. If you're just building it to show off and do big skids in and take to power cruise then why not! It is after all your money.
2. Post a build thread. This **** is interesting and I'd like to see more. Untill I see pictures I dont actually believe you're doing this. You don't seem to have much idea about anything... But you know what you want.

Believe what u want mate. I know its happening and that's all that matters. And to say i don't have much idea about anything. You don't even know me. I must know a bit if i can build my own 25/30 and make 376 rwkw on 15 Psi of boost. I've got a photo shoot at cruise for charity if i get the turbo crap sorted out in time and i have enough time to put it all back in the car myself.

What do you mean not scientificly engineered
For these stroker cranks to be made they have to be engineered by someone.
And to these standards
Do you know what standards to engine builder builds his engines to ?
