11-03-11, 10:19 GMT+10#61 Also the D40 has a very low sump. Giving it not much clearance for off road use. Had a couple of customers destroy D40s as a result of the low sump smashing things.

last time i discussed the d40's very common issues this is the list all from very unhappy ownersss
rear tail gate broken hinges and latches
not able to carry the weight of a steel bull bar as it fractures welds on the chassis .
axle and bearing recall .
Clutches been changed under warranty . But the same clutch is been re installed
turbo chargers leaking oil covering engine bay in thin layer of oil .
Turbo chargers failing
Rear suspension issue sagging with a consistent weight of only 200 kilos after only a few weeks ..
Not been able to reverse in 4x4 mode on incline while turning the steering wheel .
chewing through brake pad ridiculous quick

12-03-11, 14:27 GMT+10#67 Navaras/Tritons etc are all a hair's breath away from being a softroader, they are what they are and there's a good reason they cost half as much as a patrol/landcruiser. Even hiluxes are getting further away from being an offroad vehicle with every model
can't expect them to perform the same, they are designed with a totally different market in mind

12-03-11, 15:22 GMT+10#68 lol, one of the safety guys on the mine site i work on has one of the new hilux TD's and the auto shifter on it looks like somthing you would find on a a camery

12-03-11, 15:44 GMT+10#69 The interior on the new HiLux has heaps of parts in common with the Camry, the shifter is literally the same part, or at least it looks identical anyway. A shifter is a shifter I guess, but still.
Nonetheless, they feel way more solid than a Navara... but they do cost a bit more, too.

Very true. Its hard to compare a 4x4 ute vs 4x4 Wagon.
But comparing between the 3 market leaders Triton, Hilux and Navara... Hilux would be the go with 3L T/D but they are too much coin for a SR5! $60k plus ORC.
Bugger that!!! I went with the triton as it was Australian 4x4 Ute 2 years running. I was just about to get a ford ranger xlt crew cab, but the arrogant sales prick would only do the same deal as what I got on the GLXR.

13-03-11, 01:06 GMT+10#71 all these ppl buying these new 4wds these days, do any of uz actually use them as "its intended to be used" or is it to be a big wank factor figure and another stereotype on the road?
how many of uz actually get it dirty? how many of uz would put it inbetween trees? highly doubt much ppl would..
4wds now adays aren't wat they used to be.. all a big hype in my opinion..

13-03-11, 10:26 GMT+10#72 The main reason I bought my Isuzu D-Max was to tow, with the odd bit of "I want to drive over there" when I am on holidays.
I haven't found anywhere I haven't been able to take it including on the dunes etc, they are pretty capable utes considering they have a sprung rear end not the clearance of some of the wagons.
Most people don't like spending 40-60k on a car and then bashing it through the bush, same as most people don't buy a brand new SS and only punt it round the race track.

13-03-11, 11:02 GMT+10#73 My D22 has gone pretty much everywhere i have pointed it....more than capable of the majority of 4wd'ing that i would do which is mainly beach and tight track work....dont really care about scratches, chips etc as i didnt pay a 5hit load for it. Its 4B, its meant to be used as one. Having said that i would never spend 40K or more on a 4B and take it bush, but that is just me.

15-03-11, 13:37 GMT+10#78 ok ok.
What kind of size range? For the smaller ones?

15-03-11, 17:06 GMT+10#79 Not sure, I want to run 4 of them so I guess the size restrictions are based on the light bar.
I'm hoping a mate has some stashed - either that or he has some aircraft landing lights he reckons he can get lol

17-03-11, 09:17 GMT+10#80 I've just got 2 IPF spotties at the front.. I couldn't see needing anymore. They give out some light compared even to 5 or 6 years ago.
She is in today getting her 10,000kms service and a new UHF and Headunit put in. Hoping to pick it up this arvo.
Seeing as mine is silver D-MAX, I'm thinking black sunraisers, for the muddies
