23-02-11, 09:27 GMT+10#63 I watched the news all of last night but they were very focussed mainly on the CBD area, but how's the rest of Christchurch, eg the more residential areas - are they affected quite badly? I heard a brief mention that Lyttelton and Brighton are uninhabitable???, but basically no pics/vids of those areas from what I saw last night?
Heard back from my mates down there, they're safe but scared sh1tless, can only imagine what they're going through.

23-02-11, 17:57 GMT+10#70 Your pics Aaron? Some telling shots there. The pics of people playing in the cracks and jumping them on bikes are a nice touch - kinda shows that you need to go a long way to break the spirits of kiwis!

A construction manager (Fred Haering) describes rescuers using a hacksaw to cut off a man's leg to free him after he was pinned under concrete. A doctor administered medicine to deaden his pain. A fireman asked Haering for a hacksaw. Haering handed it over and tried to avert his eyes as the man's leg was sawed off, saving him from certain death.
Makes me feel sick inside

Just read that on the BBC site, was a Japanese dude. Horrifyingly I just heard they've given up searching in the CTV building, no possible survivors. F**k.

24-02-11, 05:11 GMT+10#74 Nice pics thanks Aaron, far better than I've seen on tvnz.co.nz and NZ Hearld
It's hard to imagine what you guys are going through down there, we sit in front of the TV up here and feel sick, but it's nothing like what CHCH residents are going through. My wife talked to some mates of hers last night and a few of them have lost their homes and are staying with relatives, but they don't know how and what they are going to do going forward, they don't have anything
