my previous car was a 92' Liberty RS Turbo. When i bought it, it had a 3" exhaust, CAI, coilovers, 2002 front brake upgrade, 02 N spec rally gearbox and kevlar button clutch. I never had any problems with it that i didnt deserve. The clucth died after about 6 months, but the previous owner had the clutch for 6 yrs and given it a bit of a beating. So i replaced the clutch with a porcelain button clutch and never looked back. I blew the rear diff going around a corner a bit too quick, so i replaced that with a 4.44 ratio wrx diff, seemed very strong. i had the car dynoed at 135awkw which wasnt too bad. I put a front mount cooler on, td05 turbo, and an avcr which saw outputs of 170awkw which felt quick in the liberty. Ran it like that for 12 months and never had an issue with it. Honestly couldnt fault anything on the car and knowing full well the prev owner had given it a hard life. Clutches definately have a short lifespan so be weary of replacing one, cos mine set me back $1890. Engine wise tho i havnt owned a better car, but like evrything, once you start modifying, things are going to break.

i had a my99 wrx sedan. I blew a big end bearing and cost me 3500 to fix it when i finaly got in put back and my machanic turned the switch and with in two seconds it blew the gearbox to pieces. They are very expensive to fix and they go like **** the only good thing about them are they sound awsome. But thats it i would be keeping to a holden vlt or a xr6t but the xr6 turbo bends rods easy but they would be cheaper to fix the a wrx.

xr6t only bends rods over 330rwkw, yes there will be some under that, that have had a hard life like mine which was stock but was overboosting which i didnt know it was (first turbo car). You can get the xr6t with standard rods to 400rwkw running e85 as a friend of mine is on it at the moment and another mate is going in for the e85 tune next week and will probably settle for 380rwkw, just go the 6 speed manaul if your going for one, should hold 350 comfortably. And they ****ing hammer!

ive owned 4 so pretty much know them inside out ive owned stock mid level and big hp 300kw .in a nutshell heres what i reckon
decent build quality in 98-2000 can get rattly with age very chuckable in corners etc good fun,98,s got the best heads and 99-00 had lots of afm problems and that can get annoying and pricey
will handle 200 kw and 15 psi with ease anything after will cost $$$$$$
famously fragile boxes ,up to 200kw a simple heavy duty clutch is plenty anything above look at dog or helis ,but if you respect the box and dont rev dump etc it will be OK
2001 -2006 much better build quality ,heavier not as nimble bug eyes being the heaviest, nicer interior
will handle 210kw 220 kw pushing it
i really love these cars yer they are overated these days but im looking for another because they are a great car to drive IMO but im biased

Having driven both WRX's and Turbo VL's they both have their strengths, recently owning a My99 and O5STi well its all about the corners. you can just go so much faster into and through corners. I'm just about to buy my third WRX

I've only driven one wrx and that was a stock 2000 STI. They go pretty well for what they are. changing gears is smooth and effortless and they have adequate power for their size i think. and the way they accellerate and come onto boost is in a smooth, linear kind of way not snap bang like some vl turbos. It also felt very stable around corners which was my favorite thing about the car. As for interior space it's not that great but in the drivers seat i think theres enough room to be comfortable.
