28-10-10, 16:00 GMT+10#61 I'm getting my plenum made up for straight gas using gra ATM. Will be 6mm thick alloy with no bellmouths just tapered runners. Have been told the gas can get caught under the bellmouths and help to cause backfires.

28-10-10, 17:14 GMT+10#63 Protig man. Can't remember if he said it was finished or almost finished. Being all one piece I won't have to worry about filling in the injector holes cause there won't be any.

28-10-10, 21:38 GMT+10#64 The bellmouths cause backfire, your gotta be kidding right???? Please don't tell that came from the guy making it? Actually please do because that would top it off.
A properly intergrated bellmourth should not cause an issue, gas or not, yes it is as simple as that. There is research outh the to show the amount of air used by a bellmouth vs that without a bellmouth and I can say you are going down the wrong path. Maybe that's just an excuse for whoever told you that to cover up their own f*ck ups?
I would be going back to the drawing board if I was you and research what is actually best for your engine and not rely on what some might tell you.

yeh 6mm is wayyyyy to thin man, cop a decent backfire on that and see you later
mine was 10mm and it still stuffered from a fracture in the material when it backfired
bell mouths causing backfires.. thats a new one to me, dont worry about the rest of the plenum being full of gas and air

29-10-10, 10:53 GMT+10#67 Think they said protruding bellmouths cause gas gets stuck in behind then or something. No idea.
I raised a question about the snort plenums not having bellmouths on boostedfalcon and was told not to go there cause snort would argue black and blue that the plenums don't need them and then cve agreed saying it's easier to tune without bellmouths. The snort topic wasn't gas based just plenum in general.
And um. Yeah the thickness and no bellmouths Protig told was how he would do it and why..

As for the bellmouths, people dont use them for two main reasons, ease of fabrication and ignorance....you can't claim to ever make a plenum that will go close to working as well as it could without them

31-10-10, 08:16 GMT+10#74 So does that mean every other company that has a similar looking design do the same thing? I'm not going to bad mouth anybody's plenum. My Protig one looks the goods andthe thing is huge. The tb would probably foul on a standard size battery. All the welds and everything on it is top notch. All my mates that see it only ever have good things to say. As they would for any other brand plenum. They all would have pro's and cons compares to each other.
I would like to compare to the standard inlet plenum and see what the differences are with nothing other then the plenum and obvious needed cooler piping changing.

31-10-10, 08:27 GMT+10#75 Just because its huge, doesn't mean its any good. There is a point where the increase volume of a plenum does not increase flow to runners....anything more is useless and can only cause pockets of turbulence or "dead air"....but hey, there is only one way to find this out and that is spending time and $$$ on research which we know someone has not done.
There is a reason why my plenums are the volume they are and this is not just so they fit in an engine bay or are "huge"...there is a purpose to it all.
Again, I don't charge for advise so feel free to use it
Last time I checked, he was still advertising my fuel rails with a pic of one of mine, so hey, my ideas are never far away

31-10-10, 09:27 GMT+10#76 Only stating the size, more to say they don't really look alike to me. Especially in the bay. Both are very good looking plenums. Yours has been proven. And his I don't think anyone has got a car running yet with one fitted apart from his own car. Which manages to make 17psi by 3,500rpm on his borwarner 1050hp rated turbo. Which seems pretty good to me. But like said. I'm planning on testing against the n/a vl standard plenum. So will see what happens.

31-10-10, 09:34 GMT+10#77 Good luck....I hope you get something half decent for what you paid because it will be a shame to see you have to spend money again which I know has happened when dealing with him and subsequently coming to me.
Hopefully your engine gets the benefits from something that is not proven or tested before being on sold to a paying customer.
