14-09-10, 21:25 GMT+10#61 It's September. Have Caltex rolled out any e85 pumps yet ? None of the major players want e85 to become popular. The t urds will delay it as long as possible.

Yes its highly corrosive, great to make power but at what cost . Blocked injectors , failing pumps , corroded tank and lines , mositure build up, thats alot to maintain IMO .

22-09-10, 15:48 GMT+10#65 I wouldn't say it's highly corrosive.. where are you getting your info from mate ?
I've been running the **** in my car for over a year now. No signs of any corrosion at all, Aeroquip lines are still perfect. I've pulled the filters and checked inside, absolutely nothing wrong with them... No signs of any problems with either my carter lift pump or either of my 044's.. my reg and injectors are as they were when put in well over a year and a half ago.
How are you gunna get any kind of moisture build up that is even worth talking about if you're driving your car, and replenishing the fuel in your tank on an almost weekly basis ?
Yeah, maybe if you filled the tank with E85 and then left your car in the garage sitting for 6 months, you might get a little bit of separation, but honestly, Is that really worth bringing up? Most guys on here wouldn't drive their cars with old 98 in them, hardly think it's a valid point.
E85..... it's the way of the future... you guys should get on it instead of thrashing the **** out of it with misinformation that such and such's aunties brothers g/f's sister told you.

24-09-10, 19:53 GMT+10#66 im with you, just in process of getting all the conversion parts already got fuel cell and twin 044s sitting at home, what do you guys use for injectors and fuel regulator if you wanna run flat 10s high 9 on E85??
when my car did 134mph on sunoco 72lb injectors were nearly maxed, i used non turbo regulator aswell.
are Fuel lab regulators any good, it says ethanol compatible, I noticed 1 of fuel lab pumps is rated 200GPH compared to bosch 044 80gph
What brand/size fuel lines are best for E85 max performance ?

24-09-10, 20:11 GMT+10#67 Corrrect me if im wrong here, but wasnt there massive issues with petrol stations about 6-7 years ago putting ethanol into petrol to "water it down" or something along those lines? And it was bad for cars??
Does anyone recall this? What i dont understand is if it was bad then, then why are they making a dedicated ethanol fuel?

26-09-10, 22:37 GMT+10#68 Zos, E85 is designed to run on E85 flex fuel cars, or modified cars that have added conversions for E85 - it is not to be run with normal petrol cars unless you want headaches and expensive repair bills.
What you should be referring to is the E10 joke. 6 years ago every ACA/TT show was talking about dodgy servos cutting their fuels with ethanol.... now you can by E10 at the pump, which is awful for economy, performance and everything in between.
E85 Good. E10 Bad.

26-09-10, 22:43 GMT+10#69 just to clear up a question i know i had before i converted to e85
i had my car tuned on CSR E85 (from the barrel) and it runs perfectly on united E85, despite CSR being mixed with 98oct and United 91 (supposedly).
this isn't just little street hits either, two full drifting events and full throttle and high rpm. loves it.
can't wait til caltex eflex drops

27-09-10, 07:10 GMT+10#70 Thanks for elaborating on that darkstar
I remember the problems ppl were having then running that E10 stuff in their cars, but obviously not the same as E85 then.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Well said !
The people going on about the corrosive effects of E85 are regurgitating propaganda they read and usually have no personal experience of using it.
People that have a clue are already using it or making plans to use it.

02-10-10, 19:45 GMT+10#72 I'm not convinced on E85. I've seen two friends cars lean out and have blocked injectors from using the pump fuel version. It's resulted in boost taking longer to come on too.
Both have moved over to the E85 that is mixed with 98RON instead of the 91RON that the pump fuel is mixed with and the cars run much much better.
Check your injectors boys... they'll be sludgy, black and grimey.
Also, the Caltex E85 is going to vary from 70% Ethanol to 85% depending on the time of year... what happens when you're tuned to E85 but get a batch of E70?

09-10-10, 10:18 GMT+10#75 Does anyone recall when the V8 Supercars tryed running E85 for the first time? Because they had some problems with corroding fuel lines and the injectors and fuel pumps playing up.
I like the idea of E85 but what will the long term effects be on the car.

if that is towards me, i wasnt thrashing it. Was something ive seen for my eyes, mind you, i was in yr 10 at the time, so it was 2008, something which i had to help prepare a report for to give to the owner who was up for a HUGE bill and had to take ford to court for. Never heard of other cars with this issue, yet it's one i've seen, and its one that was a huge ****ing headache. Iy actually started of with the car missing. went through everything, then began looking fuel side, as i worked my way back from the injectors, was getting worse and worse, ill see if i can find some old pictures which i had to take for legal reason. I dont bag it, but i personally wouldn't run it in any of my cars

24-10-10, 03:24 GMT+10#79 This is what I got done for it, wanted everything to be new before running it, Injectors should be standard indys 160lb or new indy blue replacments 165lb injectors and theres ID2000 but cant use C16 race fuel with them.theyre only good for ethanol

Indy blues should be fine. However, if you want the best go for the seimens 220lb injectors. They idle much better than the indy blues and you will never run out of injector. Job's done right, end of story.
