I was in the same situation 2 years ago. I tested a vy ss, then a ba xr6t. Ended up buying a xr6t. (Comes down to choice really as already mentioned). I have had no problems with the ba xr6t, mind you it does not get thrashed everyday, like most. (down fall areas) -crap brakes, upgraded. -radiator tanks can burst leaking coolant into tranny lines.-separate tranny cooler upgrade will prevent this happening. -rear door lock solenoids-problem since earlier ford models. -heater mixer shaft-made of plastic?, will break over time, major job to remove dash to get the heatre going again. All cars have problems, my advice is buy the best example you can afford, as there is alot of crap on the market. If going a ford, BF2 with 6 speed auto would be the better choice. if going holden, unless aiming for a cheaper hsv eg-vx. my choice would be a VZ SS 6 litre ls2.
