29-11-09, 11:14 GMT+10#61 In my opinion a distinction between twin and single cam based upon the mentality that Nissan never built a twin cam RB30 is no more valuable than the argument that would say large single turbo RB30ETs don't count as Nissan never built the RB30 with a GT47R or twin GT3582Rs like Meake's old setup. Bottom line is Nissan built the RB30 with a head, the twin cam head is just a BETTER one people install in search of performance.
This is just like the turbo side of things, Nissan built the RB30 with a turbo, a journal bearing T3 although in search of performance the aftermarket fits large single or twin turbo kits that consist of steam pipe manifolds, medium and large frame ball bearing, split pulse entry turbochargers and external waste gates, none of which Nissan ever dreamed of. Only difference is the head from a 26DETT is a factory item, which makes it even more acceptable I say.
Bottom line is everyone has to draw the line of when an RB30 stops being an RB30 somewhere. For some this may mean an increase in displacement, others an aftermarket alloy or diesel block, others a twin cam head and others perhaps a change in turbo, injectors or engine management makes it different enough from Nissan's intentions to no longer be considered an 'RB30'.
I say do whatever works for you. Big stroker kit, RD28 block, twin cam head, meth, gas, the biggest turbo on the market and a gearbox worth as much as the deposit on a unit. Tub it, chassis it, clip it and strip it - the 2J is in sights.

Talk about going off on a tangent!...
I never said it wasnt an RB30...I said its a 26/30...your comparison is ridiculous, maybe you wanna reread what you wrote?
Im not really sure what youre comparing, as far as im aware people arent arguing that a GT47 hanging off an RB30 no longer qualifies it as an RB30??? And pretty sure no-one on this website would no longer call an RB30 an RB30because it has an aftermarket ECU?
Fact is, NISSAN never built a Twin Cam RB30, therefore, it should be acknowledged if and when somebody builds a Hybrid motor (26/30) just like people will generally acknowledge what turbo theyre running??? This is using your logic...
Wheres the shame in saying that you use a 26/30 combo anyway?

The comparison Jack is making is that just like a turbo upgrade, the head is a bolt on upgrade only, and makes it no different in terms of it being an RB30 still, just like bolting a GT47 to the side on a set of custom bolt on extractors doesnt change the fact its an RB30.

29-11-09, 20:18 GMT+10#64 Agreed, although I already said it in the other thread where an argument was brewing.
Like I stated in the other thread, claiming that it's not an RB30 just because it has a twin cam head is like claiming that Sammut Racing Brothers 300ZX didn't have an RB30 because it used Mechanical injection (RB30MTT) rather then the factory EFI (RB30ET).
It's an RB30. The only different being it's DET, not an ET.

29-11-09, 21:00 GMT+10#65 I never 'claimed' it wasnt an RB30....ever....and 88, like I said, most people acknowledge the turbo their running, GT47, whatever it may be...so, why isnt it recognised as a 26/30 or an RB30DET???

Im not trying to be smart or anything like that, I never said you didnt call it an RB30, just trying to claryfiy jacks opinion, and that is that both the turbo and the head are a bolt on upgrade, and neither should require a name change of the engine. Ie. 26/30 for the head. Simply an upgraded part.

30-11-09, 06:08 GMT+10#67 Well surly there is rules for "The Fastest RB30 In The World"!?!
John Zappier drives "The Fastest Top Door-slammer In The World" and it's easy to find out what rules he has to comply to.
But I get the feeling that this is like "The Worlds Fastest VL". No body gives a f*ck out side this forum and it's open for interpretation......
BTW, the V8 guys are happy to say I run a 308 stroker, and obviously you have a RB30ET and there is a RB30DET. So what the hell is the problem!?!
This is what happens when people make up tittles to suit them selves.

30-11-09, 09:10 GMT+10#68 I was simply using the GT47 as an example. It's a turbo upgrade just like the head from a 26DETT is a head upgrade for an RB30. Still an RB30 that's my opinion.

30-11-09, 09:29 GMT+10#69 Agreed. Yes technically it probably should be called an RB30DET, but it's still an RB30

Thats the fairest way to put it.
Its still a RB30 no matter how you look at it and thats all we've ever said, by that I mean, its not like we've claimed its a RB26 but it turns out we've been running a RB30.
Anyway, here's the results of the weekend.........

So when the block gets upgraded will it still be an RB30 lol
RB30 has a single cam head period .... which makes an RB30 with a 26 a RB26/30

Again, agreed. RB30 block = RB30 motors, regardless of other components. If you want to get technical, then throw in your D, E, T, etc.

10000000% correct.
So the Sammut Brothers 300ZX is still the most powerful/fastest RB30 in the world. And has held that made up title/record since 1995-96. O, and the best bit, it's a RB30MTT. It's now 30th November 2009.

30-11-09, 14:16 GMT+10#74 I was thinking on the way to work..whilst rolling in my exciting camry, but....
I always thought it SHOULD be called RB30...but it NEEDS to say "DET", not just "RB30" by itself - yes it is an RB30..but in text alone..it's confusing as people may think it's an ET, not knowing whether or not it's a twincam or not - and face it...theres still A LOT of people in this world who don't even know what an RB30 is
Also being a 'hybrid' motor and not something that came from the 'factory' - RB26/30 suits it perfectly in my eyes.
leave the RB20, RB25, RB26, RB30 etc names for the 'factory' built motors.
Having said this, twincam heads are superior and shouldn't be "claiming" to be something it is not. add another cam to the engine, and it's an entirely "different" motor............!
I have since changed my mind on the subject, 26/30 is fitting and should *always* be used.
note:
why r we still talking about this anyways?
I'd rather us argue about which motor is cooling, RB's or 2JZ's
