21-03-09, 00:04 GMT+10#63 all depends on how much you want to spend, there are alot of great brands/ products on the market, all really depends on the quality of the person using them
glasurit, hok, alsa, ppg, standox, dupont, debeer, all in the pointy end of the market.
all paints have different ratios all will have tech sheets available when you buy them to tell you how to mix them
best is to ask what your painter likes using if using someone else, they will know where to get it, or google the brand it w will list the distributers near you.
Painters always add to the price of materials, it can be benificial to get prices yourself

25-03-09, 23:48 GMT+10#64 Over the coming weeks i'll with be posting up 3 tech articles
1. Body work
3. Priming
3. Painting
to help the novice painters out there so they have some idea of whats involved with painting a car and preping it. They will be very detailed with lots of pictures and tips etc. I have broken them up into 3 articles due to size, they are pretty lenghty but full of info, i'll will put each up as I finish, I've already spent 5hrs on the 1st one and i'm about half done it should be up in a few days, so please don't rush me, any painters/beaters out there pm me and when im done i'll msg them to you and i'd appriciate the input etc to improve them with stuff i've forgotten or tricks you've learnt i don't know about.

as long as its sealed up so no air gets to it it will be fine, paint manufacturers say 12 month shelf life to cover them selves, i've used paint thats 2 or 3 years old, not a problem at all cos it was sealed up well so no solvents could escape

never got around to doing this??
my and my uncle just finished some rust repairs on my rear 1/4.. we painted, cleared and buffed all in the same day and it was acrylic :/ lol.. we buffed because after the paint and clear coat the colour didnt match where we had tried to blend it up the pillar, so we are gonna block it back and spray it again.. my uncle reckons the paint went on too dry.. anyone got any suggestions?
this time i think ill wait a while before buffing it, just read that thing about acrylic releasing solvents for up to 6 months :/

31-05-09, 14:43 GMT+10#76 when ur sanding ur car for prep, do u need to take it all the way down to the metal? as im doing mine atm...

31-05-09, 16:23 GMT+10#77 you dont need to take it to bare metal. in some cases its best to avoid going to bare metal. taking it back to the original primer is good, but dulling the clear coat works fine in come cases
heres my home job after being buffed
