Thanks mate u could try some paint stripper or just sand it off. Wouldn't recommend doing anything with the plastic center caps as u are more then likely going to fark them. The vl calais center caps are alloy. I would chase up some proper alloy center caps and then polish the rims and center caps together.

Yeah it takes abit of work to do properly, I couldn't find anyone up here to do it for me so I had to do it myself. Post the pics up when u get the rims back so I can compare the two

06-08-06, 01:27 GMT+10#74 Cheers for the write up and technical help Larry.
I actually did 1 rim today. It took me around 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to do.
Theres no short cuts to final polishing but to get the machining marks and clear laqueur off theres an easier way I found.
Simply jack the car up on axle stands so the wheels are not touching the ground. I also chocked the front wheels just incase and had the mrs sitting in the car. Turn the car on and throw her into drive and youll find your rear wheels spinning at around 100 - 150 revs on idle in drive. Basically your using your rear end as a lathe. Same went for polishing. Just get the designated driver to squeeze the throttle a little for polishing whilst using a cordless drill and polishing mop worked a treat.
Cheers

25-09-06, 22:42 GMT+10#75 hey, do you think this would work for my aero rims? on a vl nitron.

26-09-06, 12:54 GMT+10#76 what model aero's? The more angles and inserts the rim has the harder it is.
Got my VY SS rims quoted at $150 per rim to get polished

11-10-06, 15:25 GMT+10#80 hey larry, can this method of polishing apply to calais international rims or would it wreck them?
