I have personally played around with water injection and methanol injection, Both work. I would not how ever recommend a blend of 98 and methanol. 98 fuel with menthanol injection seems to work better than blending in the tank. The last vehicle I tune running this set up (small amounts of methanol injected) gained about 8 kws top end. It would come down to how much methanol you were injecting and if it was distributed evenly. ie banked injectors or TPI.

I have personally seen inside darren's GT42 after over 18 months of road use and up to 500rwkw on pump fuel, with pre turbo water injection, and there was NIL, N.I.L markings, wear, or any evidence of water injection whatso ever. After reading this thread, I think I might chuck it on my new turbo setup on the BF, just to prove its as at home on a 55k factory car as it is a $3000 backyard job. I guess W/I is like anything, do it incoreectly and you can stuff something, its just that its something that there is little give and take with, just do it right from the outset, and as darran has proven, 500rwkw on pump fuel, from a 800hp turbo, on a relatively agricultural RB30 with stock valves, small cam, cast pistons and stock rods, stock lower intake runners, how much evidence do you need?? 6BOOST

Another guy from down this way that is also very well known for his Turbo manifold's happen's to have a Water/Methanol Injection already set up on his XR6 Turbo, so I'll be interested to see how well it work's, and see if the Tuner that we use give's it the thumb's up.

I am in the process of choosing between water injection and a unit that works on injector duty cycle and temp sensor and sprays the cooler when needed. The rice racing setup is a tad over $1000 with the fabricated water tank needed due to the system running at boost pressure. The intelligent cooler is $350. Water injection seems to be good on a number of levels but I don't like the idea of what will happen if the system fails and f**ks a $20,000 engine. The spray will keep itake temps down to about 33degrees compared to 60+ with just the a2a cooler. Also, if it fails the car won't die. I think the spray seems to be the safest choice. Just my 2cents.

been there done that..it does JACK **** unless you have the worlds worst intercooler, might aswell get a hobbs switch and some garden irrigation and another washer motor with bottle and save $250+ cheers darren

It has Argo rods, Arias pistons, custom cam, extensive head work, high energy sump, etc. The point was I don't want to f**k it up. Thanks Darren for your input, saved me money on the spray. Has there been any pitting on the impeller of your setup ? My car is at 291rwkw on 18psi with a 35/40 1.06. It's running rich and maxing out the 550cc injectors. What sort of power increase would you expect by tuning it with peters set up without changing injectors ? I would appreciate having a guideline before forking out for the 850cc's. I'm after about 350rwkw. The car has a Yarra Valley built manualised Trimatic which should be good up to 400rwkw.

See 6 boosts post above about my compressor wear.... I am not sure how rich you consider rich is.I had my tunedto afr's that mytuner would use at those boost levels without w/i for added safety(11.5) But you can lean it out more if you wish, but the truth is I would probally get bigger injectors anyway so you have room to play, especially for 350rwkw you will need them anyway probally otherwise your just piss farting around the edge. but i woudn't get 850cc, i would get the SARD 700cc gtr injectors from nengun and they should tune up nicer with plenty of headroom left... cheers darren

Whats your setup? Found this site the other night, I'm going to run the bad boy kit in the vl for 25psi pump fuel tunes http://www.snowperformance.net What do you all think? Mate back to the original post for a minute, as I stated above me and a mate are fitting the kits in the next week or 2, just waiting for the tanks to get made now, Peter at Rcie racing is great to deal with. There are no pumps, so the only failure I can see happening is if you forgot to top up the water tank. Ill reply back in this thread for you on the power gains from the 2 cars. PSIWOG, if you can do a better job of building my engine than the engine bulider that did the work to mine, I would be so amazed, my head may actually explode. Keep your eye on this thread mate, and we shall see what comes of it. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have a kit from Alcohol Injection Systems in USA thats going to be up for sale soon. same pump as this, 150 PSI, one way valve so boost dosnt enter pump, boost Switch for pump, injection nozzle, set to 10PSI can go to 20PSI for start. all push type fittings and vac/water lines. This is the pump. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

this may be obvious. do you still need intercooler with water injection. i really like the concept and would love to set something up. problem is getting a person who can tune. i asked a couple mechanicd about e85 and nobody knew anything about it. if its out of the ordinary it doest work seems to be response

Thats because people are set in their ways. Same as you get people on here regurgitating false information because that is all they read and believe, some people build their cars to the same specs as many others on here who have mismatched setups that dont work. You don't have to be using an intercooler to gain a benefit from using water injection, however im sure there are more gains to be had by applying this to an air charge that is going to be cooled further by an intercooler. Im still doing a bit of reading about all this, but it seems pretty straight forward. Once setup, like Darrens for example, I cant see why it would be any different to tune compared to tuning a non water injected car..as the idea behind the water injection is to lower cylinder pressures to allow the use of more igniton timing/boost to make power, on pump fuel, rather than relying on the use of a high octane race fuel to achieve the same kind of power levels by taking advantage of its anti-knock characteristics. The kit would be worth its weight in gold. When you take into consideration how much others spend on race fuel to achieve the same power, the kit would pay itself off rather quickly depending on how much C16 or Toluene you like to churn thru.. Best of all you don't need to worry about where or who you are going to palm all ur empty fuel drums off to. :P lol

just trying to get my head arounf this. if you run a cooler and water injection befor the turbo wouldnt the water just pool inside the intercooler?

na.....the water is so fine that its atomised with the air before it even makes it to the cooler inlet...
