F Uck that. bolt an RB30 in it. Besides anyone can make a car feel quick by lowing the diff ratio and fitting a stall. Slam a set of 4.44:1 in a sticky VB and you'll think you're in a fire breather upto 80. A wheel is round.... don't try re-invent it. its simple mate sometimes you gotta work with what you have and thats fine, if i was stuck with a 5ltr VQ i would definately spend a little bit to make it get up and go better. And if you have seen and tuned alot of cars you should know the more cubes you have to play with the better, simple as that. It doesnt matter if one 350CI engine makes less power than another 350CI motor (or what ever displacement may be), at the end of the day all apsects of each can be modified so each can make the same power - thats where the terms "mild" motor and "wild" motor come in. And also seeing that higher diff gears and a stall improve performance then let it be! its a performance upgrade yes? so what if chucked in any car it would make a difference, thats the whole point. Seriously I'm glad there hasnt been arguments but it feels like this is gonna just go in circles so I'll leave it at that and to the the thread starter go sell your car for 4 grand, take out a 20 grand loan just so you can cruise a stock 5.7ltr car thatll run 14 flat on a good day

To the original poster, just remember that aswell as having a more expensive build ahead of you, most of the stock LS1's you "want to beat" will probably be stockers driven by people who couldnt care less if you get to the next red light quicker, so you will have spent all that coin for nothing really. ive been following this thread and its turned to junk. I've owned a 5L and driven COUNTLESS 5.7L (and 6L ) how do you beat a gen3 in an aussie 5L? easy, sell it and BUY a gen3. dollar per kw, you can't beat the gen3's. even the supercharger kits are half the price of the 5L is you wanted to go that route. That's my 2 cents. Happy new year to all. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Its also alot easier said than done when it comes to the pointless bit of advice "just sell it and buy the other", maybe some people dont have the money to do so? any one heard of thinking out side the box? And if any one thinks a thread has turned to **** just because it has some decent opinions and a mature discussion maybe they shouldnt come here, especially if you are narrow minded and only focus on one side of the picture simple as that. So come on, what other person with lacking brain power wants to post useless info along the lines of "this will beat that for sure" without any contributing info? thats the sort of stuff that turns threads to ****, its about as dumb as me going into the VL turbo section and saying "well the 4 second funny cars run V8's, you should all ditch your turbos and get V8's".... there was an article in SM a few months back were they bought a stcok vt ss gen 3 for 15K and spent just over 10 grand on it by doing cam, head work, timing chain, auto, stall, diff gears, tune, extractors and exhaust and the car ran 12.5 and made 330 rwhp, so all up they spend over $25,000 if u take a vn ss or vn calais which u can pick up for 5grand buy a vortech v2 kit, small cam tune, extractors exhaust, gears, stall it should make 260-270 rwkw which should be able to run mid to low 12's and cost under 20grand, even less if your a mechanic of course as soon as u slap a blower on the gen 3 its all over but then u'll be adding another 6-7grand maybe more, it all comes down 2 the budget and what style of cars u like, im not really a fan of the vt-vx shape appart from the hsv's

gen is just factory loaded with great goodies.. alloy heads (allow more comp and more power) much better intake manifold, roller cam, superior ignition system, oh yeah.. another .7 litres of displacement. Put alloy heads, harrop manifold and stroke a holden and we'll see who wins.. but of course stock for stock, gen3 >>>>>>>> holden v8.

I guess if you're mechanically minded and keen you could make the 5 litre go fast for reasonably cheap, but for most of us who dont really have the equipment or know how, well really how can you go past a full exhaust and vcmsuite or ls1edit for a massive power boost compared to stock thats still fully driveable and sort of legal! Unfortunately around here at least, most of the ls1 drivers are starting to cotton on to the cheap modding side of things, and all of a sudden im starting to feel like im driving a noisy boat (no not because its a vn either lol), but i cant really see any cheap way of getting ass kicking performance out of it, so i think ill just leave it as it is until i want to get rid of it. course i stand by my earlier statement that the 5 litre feels more 'fun' to drive on the street due to the low/mid range torque and the note! wouldn't touch one in a VT though, just dosen't feel right!

"Spend $1,000 on a 150hp shot of NOS and you'll beat Gen3 down the 1/4" only way worth doin it! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

You also forgot to mention stock for stock the GEN III has torque limiting all through the factory tune. the 5.0 is just tuned safe, no torque limiting there. Plus most owners of a VT SS series 2 GENIII would put 91 to 95 octaine in there car. This makes the car pull the timing back to about 11 -13 degress. Just put some 98 in most GEN III's and drive them around for a while. different car. So are you saying leave a GENIII stock and stroke the 5.0, change the inlet, put alloy heads on it, change to an performance manifold. And then have a race. Are they both in the same car. Ie VT series 1 vs series 2 The factory computers are better in the GENIII so we better put a motec and tune it up on the other car to make it equal hey. Oh and the Cast iron manifolds flow better on the GENIII so lets put a set of Pace makers on the 5.0. VT HSV series 1 were 5.7 (not gen III) so wouldn't a HSV series 1 VT with a 5.7 v's a VT series 2 bog stock SS running 98 octaine fuel be a better match. At the END of the day the LS1 LS2 and so on is a much BETTER, more DEVELOPED engine than a 308,304,253, HSV cast iron 5.7 stroker. You could post the "IF" factor all day. "IF" my untie had balls she'd be my uncle.

Why compare the 2 engines anyway? It's pretty obvious the LS1 is a better engine. Here's another amazing statement - a 2007 Corolla is quicker than a 1989 Corolla The question here is "how to beat a vx and vy 5.7 in a 5.0?"... not "which is better, the new US built motor, or the 20 year old Australian built motor"
