i think nutting it down to body options etc is a bit extreme.
but the walkinshaw realy was its own car, as was the calais, and the sl and the berlina. there are a couple of others that were their own car.
your poll is more suited to "favourite base attainable vls" because lets face it. how many of us here can tomorow be like **** it ill buy a SSA walky? haha?
the walkinshaw is one of my fav cars of all time too, but hdt le calais.. thats some sexy sexy car too.
btw, i have a calais, that came factory with the hdt le kit hehe. sexy cars, love sitting in it hehe.

Say, you have two identical S/L's, every last detail, the only difference is one say's BT-1 on the tags - the other one has been mocked up to look the same.
Which is worth more, and why?
And before everyone says "zOMG because theyre yellow bro" lets just say theyre both white. Is a stock VLT really worth that much more just because it says "BT-1' on the tags? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
its sad but yer .. stupid people pay $10K + for the bloody striped out ****as .... got me buggered to

And this surprises you after 19-21 years? Most of these things are easily rectified too, either a worn motor for windows and lights, or wiring, or even the bailey's for the windows when the felt wears off and they get a bit hard and cause too much friction for the window to travel smoothly. I'm lucky, my Nov '86 Calais has everything working for now, though the windows are on the slow side, they move every time the switch is operated, pop ups work fine, power steering squeels every now and then but I think that's the way I fitted the belt, have to look at it again. Not arguing here, just saying that not all of them are stuffed, and most are a simple fix, the owners just need to get busy. As I said earlier, I'm a fan of all VL's, well except the ugly ones that people molest and turn into shitters.
One thing, I've had 2 VL's now with power mirrors, do they normally squeel thier tits off when operated?

I'm going to have to go with a Series I SL for obvious, and not so obvious reasons.
It's lighter, brakes better, has bigger seats and the interior wears better.
The Calais just seems very fragile by comparison. From interior trim (too scared to lean on the fabric for fear of wearing it out) to exterior chome (always the first to get bashed in a carpark) the SL just seems a lot more hard wearing and easier to keep in one piece.
Problem is the Calais gets more looks. Grrrr !

Here are some pics of my calais interior. There isnt a mark anywhere on it. Its 132,000km genuine and has been looked after from day 1. The ashtray has never been used, and EVERYTHING works. I think its a mater how you treat the car over the type of car that determines how long your trim lasts. Just to prove this i added a pic of my daily driver, a verada (just involved in accident ) that is just about to hit 400,000 km, and is spotless inside (floor mats are shocking i know !! haha) To say the calais is not "hard wearing" is just silly. I do agree that my seats need a steam clean ill pull them out while im doing all the turbo manifold when the weather heats up so they can dry ......

thats what my interior kinda looks like at the moment, (apart from i broke the glovebox catch, so its sitting in my boot, and the center console is broked from when i put the gearbox in (dont ask))
and the ONLY wear on my interior, is a little rip along the stitching on the drivers seat, and apparently its done over 280k kays before i got to it
