06-07-06, 09:41 GMT+10#63 im looking at the combo making about 1200hp+...or something along the lines of 900rwhp once fully tuned and prepped.

06-07-06, 14:47 GMT+10#66 id be chasing a big fat torque band rather then peak HP . especially with a 2 speed where it will have to pull in top for most of the track. One thing methanol is good for. saw a car go from c16 to alcohol same boost. made 100 extra hp and the torque went off the scale and its much quicker car now

06-07-06, 14:51 GMT+10#67 dont know dude, its getting engine dynoed in the next few days,i just picked up my new custom ring gear i had designed, ill be selling these along with water pump pulleys, throttle bodys and performance manufactuers new rb30 billet plenums and a few other assorted parts for the rb30 for mates rates just to prove you dont have to pay big bucks for most parts.

he is a fitter and turner by trade and this thing is about 40 years old
we done mine on the berco head machine

Is there still a decent amount of cams available for the RB25 head?
talk to lukevl he makes cams for them

agreed luke l've spent a fair bit on my new motor and had mine done, seen to many 25/26 pumps get smashed on rb 30 because of this problem

06-07-06, 17:14 GMT+10#69 so if 11k can get you an rb26b head that will give u 900rwhp.... surely it would be a BIT less for one that would only flow 550rwhp...
no ?

06-07-06, 20:05 GMT+10#70 yes.
Head = 1400 (minus turbos)
Bottom end to suit = depends on what you want/who you know
RB25 head studs = $150 (around)
Cooler piping + dumps to suit = 1500
And thats it...?

06-07-06, 21:05 GMT+10#71 Sure, all you need then is the six throttle body induction, plenum, and injectors, another $1,000 at least.
And the Turbo(s), exhaust manifold, wastegate, and intercooler. Maybe another $3,000 to $5,000 or more.
Then all you need is the aftermarket ECU, fuel pump, and exhaust system.........
No worries.

06-07-06, 21:32 GMT+10#72 exhaust manifolds and turbos are $400 extra unless you wanna go aftermarket straight up, with a single, i would as it would make piping heaps cheaper. Plenum and injectors come with the head mate that was part of the 1400... SPOOL quoted. What do you mean six throttle body induction, thats just part of the plenum, which also comes with the head.
You are listing everything, of course it costs heaps if you add up all the bolt ons, ecu etc... but i was talking about the bare 26/30 conversion all in and plumbed up, the turbo side and ecu, wastegate, cooler etc is a different story which is obviously going to need to be addressed whether you go for a 26 head or not if you want decent power so i wouldnt include that as a specific cost of having an rb26 head....

06-07-06, 21:42 GMT+10#73 if i already have an ECU + 6x injectors + surge tank + catch can + MSD + bresciani plenum (XF TB) on my RB30.... if i were to later go a 26 head, would the only thing that needed to be changed / altered be the bresciani plenum ?? so leaving me with just the cost of the head itself / working the bottom end + fitting a few goodies to the head and labour right ??
Jack, how much would a completely stock 26 head on the 30 bottom end ( i think what your planning to do) theoretically give you rwhp / rwkw capable ?

06-07-06, 22:00 GMT+10#74 a guy on SAU made 440rwhp on 14/15psi with a 1.06 GT35/40 with one i think, it might have been the smaller rear actually?

06-07-06, 22:17 GMT+10#75 IMO anyone who is going to the trouble of getting the block oringed is going to be able to afford to get the head bolt holes tapped to a bigger size for a start but either was mentioned will be sufficent damn why do people have to carry on about silly stuff kids stuff really :P
You should be able to get your head reconditioned for around 300 - 400 dollars which should get it trued up with new valve stem seals and have the valves re-seated you shouldn't have to worry about getting any port work done as the 26 head will be far better than the single cam.
With regards to inlet manifold if you can get a head and manifold then snatch it up if not try and find the cheapested head you can that isn't damaged and buy a greddy plenum and put a q45 throttle body on it.
Get a 6 boost manifold with a big single don't even worry about using the standard twins or bigger aftermarket ones the std manifolds aren't that good anyways and they are just like a really big big head case those turbos and manifolds were made to have small asian people named chen with hands the size of a 12 year old work on them.
I think that you should go see an engine builder tell him what you are thinking about doing and ask him if he has done it before find someone that has and get them to help to point you in the right direction. Don't be fooled by someone that doesn't know what they are doing ask them if you can talk to someone that has an engine that they have built and see what they say and go from there.
Good luck what ever you decide to do !

07-07-06, 17:14 GMT+10#76 A stock 26 head will make 550rwhp without a problem, a
stock single cam head will do it aswell.
Fit bronze valve guides as someone else stated and leave the 26 head stock.
Money is better spent elsewhere
cheers

whoah thats awesome... i had no idea the stock head would do 550rwhp !!!
is that definate ?? man, the benefits of going with a 26 head seem to many to ignore...
my car's my daily , so would it definately be able to take decent power and occasional 1/4's running 550rwhp or so?

08-07-06, 12:14 GMT+10#78 Yeah a stock single cam will do it, big cam, and loads of boost! Makes for a pretty average engine compared to a twincam with more torque, spool at lower revs, mild cams that idle nice ect. All depends on what u want.
The cost of getting work done on a single cam over the cost of a 26 head setup would get closer the more power u wanted, and after a point the twincam just becomes a better engine in power delivery i would think
