Preserved from CalaisTurbo (partial recovery). Original authors and dates are shown; archived members are not current Holdcom accounts.

The front looks tuff - reminds me of Opel a lot though, Astra Turbo especially : The ass end is definiately different, may take some time getting used to... You can't really make a firm judgement based on a magazine picture anyway. Besides, it may not even look like this when it's released. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I agree with all of that. Too many wankers wont get there hands off it and realise compared to most other cars, holden are pretty piss poor.

Yes, Holden's technology isn't in the same league but neither is their pricing. For the price of an SS, Calais or HSV you would be lucky to get a bare bones base model Audi. Stuff the Audi, I know where I'd rather spend my money. Quote: Originally Posted by Avenged7X the VE is a f*ckin abortion??? This is part of the VZ series 1 runout. Now what dealers usually do in a runout is heavily discount the RRP of the car. What that does is essentially weaken the resale value - because the car was sold for a lower price it will be worth less than it should be in the future. With the free fuel offer Holden are doing, they are able to sell the car at retail price which helps its resale value, but at the same time give the customer a $2000/$4000 saving, without devaluing the car. And with fuel prices the way they are, it is also excellent marketing. They are very impressive for an engine of that size. And with VVT and DOD to soon be features of these engines, their fuel efficiency will only improve. I must bow down to them now. no but they are the first to use FSI technology and have been using AWD (quattro) for 25 years and are the only cars on the aussie market that have perfected CVT Do some research and get your facts straight, the Corolla has never outsold the Commodore and only outsold Falcon once in July. They are very impressive for an engine of that size. And with VVT and DOD to soon be features of these engines, their fuel efficiency will only improve. and what are the figures exactly? not being a smart ass, if its not less than 13/100 km combined then i think thats fairly thirsty And they still do use pushrod engines, the LS1 and LS2, and these engines prove that a well designed pushrod engine can be vastly superior to an OHC engine. taken a while for the developement process, all up to the yanks really, not like theyre Holdens engines to start with Which means don't underestimate it. all of that money hopefully goes somewhere, hey i like Holdens too, i own one, i just dont want to see Australia lose an icon due to poor design and overseas market influence

One is an imported prestige car which only sells in very small numbers here, while the other is a local high volume sales topping product whose main customer are fleets. Of course holdens resale value will be weaker when they are sold in such large numbers. Ford's resale value is significantly worse, and has been for a while now, but I don't see you bagging them. Go to an auction and you will see BA's selling on average between $1000 - $2500 lower than the equivalent VY/VZ. Here is a quote out of a VZ R8 review- Quote: Another HSV tradition it breaks from is in fuel consumption. Although it will consume heavily in slow traffic, on the open road it can be amazingly frugal for a high-performance V8. Our best figure, measured fill-to-fill, was just under 10 litres per 100km. Even when King Kong comes out to play consumption doesn't deteriorate to the frightening extent it does with some V8s. A section of winding road produced an average of 14 litres per 100km, not far off what you'd use in some of the heavier Holden V6 models. However I know these same people will be eating their words when the VE is released. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Here is a quote out of a VZ R8 review- not too bad, see how they compete with the Chrysler 300C Source:http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...E13232,00.html (http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,15391027%255E13232,00.html) Same with me, but I have faith in Holden and believe that the VE will be a ripper. However I know these same people will be eating their words when the VE is released. i felt the same way about VTs when they came out... thought they were ugly... liked them for a while... now that theyre everywhere i cant stand looking at them, im keen to see the diesel, hopefully they have a turbo version and hopefully it is optional in the Calais Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

wtf diesel??? European ... yuk.

yeah diesel, theres a 3.0 turbo diesel in the new Grand Cherokee built by Mercedes, it has 160 kw & 510 nm of torque, and uses a VGT so the pick up is quite good and there isnt much lag at all, there is also a 3.0 TD in the A6 which performs even better 165 and 450 nm

The VE will look WAY better than that. Besides, Holden wouldn't allow full pics like that to be published 12 months before release! Quote: Originally Posted by Avenged7X im keen to see the diesel, hopefully they have a turbo version and hopefully it is optional in the Calais I am not at all convinced on the benefits of diesel. Not only is the cost benefit negligible, but it is dirty, smelly, polluting and is proven to be highly carcinogenic (cancer causing) in comparison to petrol. I say leave the stuff for trucks. We have to remember that Europe and Australia are two very different markets, just because something is big in Europe doesn't mean it would work here, and vice versa. with the way petrol prices/consumption is going we might have to at least have it as an option, also the diesel we have in Aus is alot dirtier than the diesel in Europe, apparantly we are supposed to be getting better quality diesel by the end of the year, it was supposed to happen this year... but you know how it goes... as for the wheels pic, i wasnt aware that it was computer generated... they really shouldnt do that, it creates the wrong imagery of what the new commodore is going to look like, hence threads like this one...

hrm the only thing i dont like is the tall forward slanting cab design, looks alot like a late model camry to me. But meh holden have never done us wrong with a new model visually in the past (except vn haha, but even the ss vn's look great) so im not worried, im sure when it finally comes out it will look as good as the ones before it have, which i must say is VERY GOOD for a family car imo.
