Hasnt this car sold yet?
Darkstar: Reguards to the POWERFC i was reading in a jap mag and it was sed to be a piggyback. Later down the track after this thread i found out it was a whole ECU. Its also hard to tune because not many people have experience with it not jus the CBF factor. Chasers and PROTEK can tune it because they do it all the time with their silvias and skylines. Majority of workshops specialise in the vls. Bresciani, JPC, Rajab, MSC etc. . . I assume no vls would use the powerfc? therefore not many workshops tune em.
All in all, i know what im on about, goodluck with the car nick, and darkstar, thanks for the facts, i now know more than b4.
Phill, you cannot purchase a POWER FC ECU for a VL because they are engineered to be car sepecific and the target market is Japanese Domestic Vehicles such as Skylines and Silvias. Some people have used POWER FCs in RB30DET converisons with RB25/RB26 heads. Having taken about 5 apart from diffent cars and played arond with the tuning software, there is not much to them. The main unit is just an NEC IC with all the data and tables stored, and the rest of the circiut bored is your ignition/injector drivers etc. Some of the AP Engineering ECUs for CA18DET are actually modified RB25DET ECUs with different plugs and rom sets, but same PCB.
Tuning an ECU is not hard and using a POWER FC H/C to tune is very easy - its just cumbersome to use due to the ****ty little read out screen and gameboy controller. If you have ever used one, you would know what i mean. Once you know your way around it and the shortcuts, its not that bad, but most people CBF as they cannot tune it in the same ammount of time as those that speicalise in it, thus they have to either charge less per hour of tuning or loose the job to the competition.
Simple fact is that the POWER FC is a great replacement computer for what it is and how easy it is to install, once you get around the flimsy hand controller. No other direct plugin management comes close apart from the HKS F-CON VPro (no one can tune this ECU in aust apart from Croydon or Advan in sydney as they have the software) and the new Emanage-Pro series which takes the emanage piggy back into a stand alone computer with a hoard of funtions and more importantly factory laptop tunable software via a usb/network dongle.
i was assuming you cant purchase it for the rb30 aswell. thanks for the facts, will refer back to them in future
