hey instinct, i didn't mean 2 insult u, i just didn't understand y u were suggesting mods that weren't necessary. the trimatic has it's faults, but then so does the T700. U will kill any box if u thrash it it. I was only stating necessary mods that Stable was really after. And yes my ute with T700 and 3.7 gears did sit on 2400 rpm. this was my own car, not what my mates or some bullsh#t commodore magazine states. tell me why YOU rate the trimatic so poorly, not what a magazine says. Yes technology and corvette gearboxes are a good improvement. i have rebuilt both boxes many times, and if treated with respect both will handle a fair bit of power. u claim urself that u worked in fruit and veg and now a bum on centerlink, where does ur mechanical experiece come from? i don't mean 2 pay out on u but if ur gonna rip into someone that's been working on cars for 14 years then be prepared for criticism. kind regards toe. I read and understand you suggestions, however Stable seems to be to quite inexperienced by the way he responds to the suggestions floating around this thread and doesnt appear to have any plans set in concrete for his ride, so I tried to offer suggestions that wouldnt be made redundant by other future mods unlike a cam/head/carby combo. Also I never said that the trimatic wasnt up to the task structurally but rather that in my opinion - it wasnt the better of what is available for what I understand Stable is looking for, being a daily street car that can perform (low 13 to high 12 secs) but still return good cruisablity and economy. When did I reference a commodore magazine? I use a mathematical equation to determine ratios and engine/car speeds not some quoted number from somewhere but in any case i went and did my research (using my friends car) in the event my formula was incorrect, which by my findings isn't and the difference in RPM your talking about is only 8kms/hr, could it be at all possible that your built to the 10% rule and to a budget, wearing and tearing mechanical by nature device could be wrong? Although I havent any formal mechanical training my exposure to the workings of commodores is fairly good and I like to absorb every piece of information I can about things Im interested in and lets face it, sussing out a good performing yet reliable and economical commodore is hardly rocket science. It also strikes me as strange that you cant see the benefits of my suggestions considering your extensive 14yrs of commodore experience. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

but if you sold the injection along with the computer and rails and everything, the carby and manifold pay for themselves.. and maybe some back. AND you've got a roller cam and some EFI heads for free. what mods are done to your motor mate?

I'll give you the 3 options i would consider & have used all 3 myself/mates. 1. 308 efi t700 Cost about $3 - $4500 depends on condition. Very easy conversion i have done 2 in vh's & 1 vk. In stock form should get you a 14.6 1/4mile & be very responsive. 2.308 efi trimatic Cost about $2000 useing your tri & bottom end. will pretty much yield the same as option 1 but without the benefit of an overdrive box. Very simple conversion with the sky being the limit for future mods. 3.308 carby [vn heads/manifold] trimatic/t350 Useing everything you already have except replaceing your exhaust/manifold/cam etc. The reason i chose a trimatic or t350 is it is a prick of a job to set a t700 up behind a tri block with a carby & the cable on a t700 is not a kickdown cable but rather a line pressure cable & the 2 being very different. Cost would be about $2000 depending on how much you do yourself & buying well. Just remember that a stage 3 auto is full manual [can be a prick sometimes & pesonally would be useing a stage 2 on the street] A mate has option 1 in a vh commy with a stage 3 cam & chip [crow] stage 2 t700 3.45-1 diff gears [vl lsd] & ran a best time of 13.9 with traction probs. While i havent gone into alot of detail atleast you get the general picture the other thing to consider is useing vn heads you can take advantage of running whatever fuel you like as well as haveing alot more options for future mods. Cheers Marti Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Don't know if it's been said already but you can't have a dual exhaust on either side of the car, because there is no room. I know of a guy who had it done and got a custom fuel tank made and fitted in his boot just so he can have twin pipes coming out the back. Looks trick, but was bloody expensive and alot of work.

When i bought my VT roller stroker it didn't come with the computer (or wiring harness) and all the plugs and leads on it weren't in the best condition, the manifolds are everywhere and arn't that desirable anyway, not sure how in demand fuel rails are though, so all you have is injectors which how often do you see threads on forums selling blue tops for $200 with no bites for months, then someone comes along and says "i'll give 100-150 bux" and they're sold. Then you're genna buy a manifold which could cost you anything from $500-$1000 and mods to your rochester will $450 or so (more if you're genna replace it) plus a couple a hundred dollars for a fancy K&N air cleaner... the numbers just don't add up to me. But since your genna need a manifold and carby/air cleaner anyway I just think you could build a better stroker than a stock 220i with that $6000 outlay for the crate motor (if you find one for 6gs like i did, i've heard some people wanted 8gs for them now)... just trying to help mate - no offence intended. Hey i was just thinking about options.... i'll still want Unleaded heads and probably roller rockers, and my first question did say "HOW MUCH WILL IT BE" not how retarded is this idea? these are how ppl research their projects, they ask dumb questions for answers they dont know and then they find out and then they wont ask the dumb questions anymore, and if theyre nice ppl they share this info with others instead of telling them their dumb ****s too. ok. cheers Steve

stable, u can't just pick a stall converter, it's 2 suit the cam ur using, shift kitting is mainly used 4 the drags, (every1 has a diff opinion of this, drive one first b4 u fit it), there has been a lot of good suggestions made by some of the guys, if u r still asking questions, then u might want 2 narrow ur needs down further than what u have done.
