hey all, im a total new person to cars and stuff so give me a break. I have a stock RB30E and want to make it a nice ride with a bit of grunt/power, so far i have decided after reading this thread to get a 2.5" mendrel bent exhaust system with high flow cat, 20 degrees advanced timing(i have no clue what the hell that is), custom cold air intake, and mabe extractors depending on how my money is going. Anyone have a clue as to what that would set me back rufly? and does anyone know some similar mods that would be better for me to do as far as power for money goes...all responses welcomed

Timing, Free - Do a search on here for the stuff on how to do it. It's here some where. Cold air, $30 My article in the tech section will explain everything. I'd get extractors off here for around $100. Save all you can. Run the car on BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax. After all that you start opening the motor up.ECU's, Cams, headwork all costs $$$ It all depends on your cash situation ! Speed costs money, How fast do you want to go? ps. I think some of the figures like 104 RWKW's would be a fallacy unless the single cam motor was heavily modified (i.e. stage 3 cam, etc). I would like to throw mine on a dyno to see what it is putting out with the multi valved head and high compression pistons, with these mods over 100 kilowatts is believeable, but not from a single cam motor with nothing internally done to it. It is hard to believe that an RB30E would beat a V6 (down low at least) unless the V6 was worn out. As for external mods on the standard motor this will boost bottom end torque but will sacrifice the top end power & torque which these engines lack in single cam form, make them breathe better with a 24 valve head (or large cam & porting for the SOHC engine) and up the compression, then you have another power band to play with from 3000 RPM onwards and another one at 5000 RPM,it will also make a meal out of pulling up hills in the mid RPM range, you can also hold in certain gears for a little longer at lower speeds.

Although I agree to an extent, I believe 100rwkw is fairly easy out of an n/a.. Well I'm on 87 rwkw and thats with an exhaust. CAI, timing, may see me not too far off, then I can look at cam and chip, which was 8/ 16 kw..That could quite easily take me between 100-110.. But at the end of the day, thats all it is..
